When I was 12, I told my parents I desperately wanted the "King Kong record"...
I know you don't want details, but I can't resist...
My mom didn't seem too keen. I was 12, and I think she was worried I wanted it for more for the back cover than the music!
In any case, they acquiesced and bought it for my birthday...or was it Christmas? Or maybe I saved up the massive $7.50 and bought it myself. I don't remember. In any case, I got it!
Unfortunately, I had left it on the turntable when my dad was painting the living room, and he splattered white paint on it.
I actually thought it might have gotten thrown out (much of my childhood and adolescent memorabilia got thrown-out -- either that or "reclaimed" by my older brother, who always seemed to think my stuff was just "hand-me-downs" that actually belonged to him -- but I digress!). However I just recently my record shelf, and was surprised to see I still have the original copy!
It's funny that every time I bump this in order for Jim to give us the feckin' results, someone else posts another answer to the original question. Is that the real motive behind the experiment, Jim?
Jim, what's the closing date for this experiment? Could you do a pie chart with the info gathered, perhaps showing the diametrical geopolitical physical retro robot conundrum statistics oceanography counterbalance?

OK Jim, - scumbag, nutmeg and lazy git. I've done the work for you.
99% of the people who replied had bought a soundtrack before the age of 66. The exception was Loverozsa who posted that he was 66 years old when he bought BEN-HUR. 100 people replied, so Loverozsa was the other 1%. And the only one who wasn't playing with himself for the 50% of the time he wasn't listening to soundtracks.
