I purchased a new copy of this wonderful movie and noticed it has the isolated score by Georges Delerue. Does anyone know how I can listen to this score alone, perhaps ripping it to iTunes? I don't want to do anything illegal; just listen to this little "Easter egg" I discovered in the dvd without carrying my dvd player or lapstop with me. Thanks.

Drop me e-mail (in profile), I probably can help wink

I can't believe this score hasn't been given the deluxe treatment yet. Especially considering it could be paired with a tossed score by Shire. That would be too nummy to pass up.

That would be wonderful indeed.

I had no idea that Shire composed a score for this that was rejected!
"Easter Picnic" is one of the most GORGEOUS things Delerue ever composed.

Delerue's score is very well represented on the CD, maybe 5 minutes are missing no more (Shelby's diabetes crisis, Shelby and her mother conversation about pregnancy, two short musical transitions, supermarket source music).

And has annoying songs...

A Delerue + Shire disc would be VERY welcome here.

Shire commented in more detail on it in abook a year or two ago: basically, the director went on a two-month honeymoon, so he was under the eye of the supervising music editor who didn't like what he was doing but couldn't give him notes on how to change it since the director was out of communication. The director came back and fired him. His offer to do a new score was not accepted.

Damn, damn, damn, it happens every time. I watched this on TCM today, half-listening while I did paperwork. Then, the movie gets to the grave scene and Delerue's gut-wrenching, heartbreaking music begins and plays probably one of THE most emotional pieces of music I have ever heard. I lose it completely and am a puddle until Clairee grabs Ouiser, trying to get M'Lynn to take a swing at her. At that point, I am laughing hysterically. It happens every single time.

I tried to "isolate" the score and had no luck. Maybe someone can give me pointers. I tried on WMP and iTunes with no luck. I'm usually pretty good with this kind of thing.

Anyway, listened to "The Drive to Aunt Fer's" and the cloudy day seems cloudier. Damn.

Back to business, if anyone can help me out, please let me know. Thanks.

I loved the fine acting in the movie and loved the score.

I watched the film again very recently. All the women were annoying except for Sally Field and Julia Roberts. The scene in the cemetery with Sally Field was absolutely magnificent; I really believed, and this came from somewhere deep and fundamental inside this actress. Superb.
