Anyone else on here a fan of Patric Williams' music for this iconic '70's cop show? I have the DVD sets and have recently revisited it and have fallen in love again with it's funky and gritty take on the city by the Bay. It's obviously following the style that Lola Schifrin laid out on on similar location specific films, like BULLET and DIRTY HARRY, but Williams, I feel, took it to a whole other level.
I got on a 70's cop show kick a few years ago & starting picking up DVD sets. Most I barely even remember since I was a child. The Streets sets feature some of the best picture & sound of any 70's TV show. Unfortunately, they were issued in those stupid 1/2 season sets instead of complete seasons.
The opening theme is the funky 70's crime intro at its best. There are so many great themes to choose from. (THE ROOKIES, SWAT, HAWAII 5-O) but this one is about as good as it gets. Pretty good show too!
I recently saw an episode after a long absence, which guest-starred Brenda Vaccaro as a rookie cop who agrees to act as bait to catch a killer who murdered her best friend while playing the same game. They always had those progress inserts, the final one being the 'epilog.' The title theme was as stylish as any from the era.

Haven't seen an ep of SOSF for a looong time. Fantastic and classic theme. That's all I recall of the music to be honest.
I'm more familiar with Pat William's Columbo scores, and I love them, particularly How To Dial A Murder. VERY different from SOSF of course... streets away in fact.

That's about it for me too. I remember this show from childhood days and I loved it back than, watching many episodes even though they ran way to late for me at that time (though they came Fridays, so it wasn't TOO bad.) In any case, I don't remember much of the rest of the music, but that theme: FANTASTIC. It had real funky bite.
I doubt it will ever happen on CD. If you can though, get hold of his big band album Threshold, which is very much in the style of The Streets of San Francisco.
It's available through Artistshare and on iTunes I think. The original Soundwings CD (best sound) is quite hard to find at a cheap price.
On the subject of Columbo, I liked his score for Sex and the Married Detective.

Mancini recorded the theme on his "Cop Show Themes" CD.
Pretty good. I like the extended portions, which you don't hear on the show itself. But it's still missing the guitar "waca-waca"s in the beginning and end of the theme, as heard here:
Bar none, here's one the best and most authentic renditions of Patrick Williams' timeless masterpiece...

Is this cd still available?

It was actually released on one of Silvascreen's compilation albums/CD (of which I'm unable to recall at this time), but of all the tracks on the 2 CDs, it was, by far, the best one and got repeated plays at my house. You can find the track here - http://www.silvamasters.com/track/MjE5NTU3LTk1ODhiYg/
