WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN---Sony Pictures released a trailer of the remake movie starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deSRpSn8Pyk

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN---trailer released for the movie starring Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CKPj4O5_9s

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII---Prince William and Prince Harry visited the EPISODE VIII set at Pinewood Studios. One photo showed Mark Hamill and Harry in an A-Wing Fighter, slightly modified from the fighter used in the original movie. Premiere is on December 15, 2017.

POWER RANGERS---photo released of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in the remake movie.

JUSTICE LEAGUE---Willem DaFoe will play a "good guy" in the two-part movie.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON---Joss Whedon commented on the mixed fan reaction to his sequel, "Ultron, I'm very proud of. There are things that did not meet my expectations of myself, and I was so beaten down by the process. Some of that was conflict with Marvel, which is inevitable, but a lot of that was about my own work. And I was also exhausted, and we went right away and did publicity, and I sort of created the narrative, wherein I'm not quite accomplished at it, and people just ran with that: 'Well, it's okay, it could be better, but it's not Joss's fault.' And I think that did a disservice to the movie and to the studio and to myself, ultimately. It was not the right way to be, because I am very proud of it.
The things that are wrong frustrate me enormously, and I probably had more of those than I had on other movies I made. But I also got to make, for the second time, an absurdly personal movie where I got to talk about how I felt about humanity and what it means in very esoteric and bizarre ways for hundreds of millions of dollars. The fact that Marvel gave me that opportunity twice is so bonkers and so beautiful, and the fact that I come off of it feeling like a miserable failure is also bonkers, but not in a cute way. It becomes problematic."

STAN AGAINST EVIL---new IFC comedy horror series starring John C. McGinley (SCRUBS) and Janet Varney in which an ex-sheriff and his female successor defend their small New Hampshire town from its deadly demons.

TIN STAR---Western miniseries underway starring Tim Roth (LIE TO ME) and Christina Hendricks (MAD MEN) in which a London police detective becomes the new sheriff of a small Rocky Mountain town. When a new oil refinery brings organized crime, prostitution and drugs with it, the sheriff and his family are threatened by assassins.

THE LEARS---Bruce Dern, Anthony Michael Hall and Sean Astin star in this new sitcom based on KING LEAR in which a famous architect tells his dysfunctional children and their spouses that he's retiring and marrying his personal assistant. This causes jealousy and greed as the family jockeys for power.

LASSO---Lindsey Morgan (THE 100) stars in this movie about two employees at a senior citizens center who battle a group of deadly, psycho cowboys from the local rodeo.

On first blush, I honestly thought that was one of the Jedi starfighters from the prequels. Not sure why...

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Let me be the first to evince a contempt for the ongoing habit of incorporating pop music into theater. You`re doing a legendary western (remake), and you do *not* feature original classic guitar score. Not a good out-of-the-gate vibe for this cowboy.

It would be nice if a suspension of disbelief in a free-roaming professional gunslinger who is black was not necessary - if the character was somehow explained or couched in such a way that justifies his bearing from a historical perspective. D. Washington is a great actor, but I have reservations about that.

The real question is whether or not the production has anything of substance to tell. One would hope its claim to worthiness is more than just being able to advertise an assemblage of cast.

(Wrothiness. My initial mis-type... I must use that somehow... it sounds too darkly legitimate to cast away...)

All of the starfighters do share a generally similar design scheme. Also, it almost looks like Mark Hamill is sitting in the astromech droid socket on the side, like Obi-Wan's starfighter had in Attack of the Clones.

Agreed, completely inappropriate and cringe worthy. Ironically it's the Guardian of the Galaxy syndrome. They did the same thing with the new Star Trek trailer.

I see from the trailer they also degraded the color too. Can we dispense with orange and teal being the only two colors we can have in a film?

I don't think he is. Checking this link http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/RZ-1_A-wing_interceptor I think he's standing just behind the 'wing' section next to the engine on a-wing's left. I don't think the a-wing has a droid socket by the looks of it.

I too wasn't crazy about the music in The Magnificent Seven trailer, but I have high hopes for the movie.

I really liked the book The Girl On The Train, and the movie has a good cast. However, the book took place in a small town outside of London, and each day the main character rode a train from her small town into London. I loved the geography of the novel. Now I see the movie changed the setting to New York. "Bloody Tossers." smile

I expect no explanation for the existence of a black gunslinger during an era where not only would few white men tolerate such a being, but also every little old lady with a shotgun. He's about as credible as Oddball in Kelly's Heroes.

Also I find the look of this movie as gleaned from the trailer to be ugly, ugly, ugly. So, I'm expecting yet another ugly, dumb modern western.

I know Hamill's not actually in a droid socket, and that there isn't one on an A-wing. I was suggesting that was why LeHah thought it LOOKED like one of the prequel starfighters, specifically the one Obi-Wan was flying in AOTC......

This could have come out of my mouth.

I blame Bryan Adams and "Robin Hood-Prince Of Thieves".
And at least everyone was trying to kill Cleavon Little before they begrudgingly accepted him ("Blazing Saddles").

I am going to use wrothiness in a dialog with someone today and see what develops.

My word, Joan. I had a distinct flashback to Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors.
