FRIDAY, APRIL 22

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE---new trailer released for the sequel.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0q0Gax0aYs

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING---Sony Pictures confirmed that Robert Downey, Jr. will appear as Tony Stark in the reboot movie. However, Michael Keaton is no longer in talks to play the villain.
Downey confirmed he's returning for SHERLOCK HOLMES 3, “We’re talking about it right now. We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those ‘Sherlock’ movies it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies...I’m so excited about it.”

BAYWATCH---Dwayne Johnson announced that Pamela Anderson is returning for the movie based on her lifeguard tv series, “She introduced the world to ‘CJ Parker’ and became one of the most iconic characters of a generation – for the most successful TV show of all time,” Johnson said. “A pleasure to welcome (as gorgeous as ever) Pamela Anderson to our #BAYWATCH cast. We couldn’t have made this movie without you. Welcome home. Thrilled you had a blast with us!”

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII---Noah Segan (LOOPER, BREAKING BAD) has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Benecio Del Toro and Laura Dern also star.

BLADE RUNNER 2---Ana de Armas (KNOCK KNOCK) will play a lead undisclosed female role in the sequel.

THE DARK TOWER---Fran Kranz (THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) will play Pimli, "the right hand man to the Man in Black". in the Sony Pictures movie based on the Stephen King novels.

KRYPTON---Syfy pilot is close to approval. The series synopsis is:

“Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized.
This series follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.”

OSAMA'S 11---movie underway based on the true story of a Los Angeles bank robber who is recruited by the US government to rob from Al Qaeda. The script is by George Mastras (BREAKING BAD).

WOMEN IN BUSINESS---Emma Stone, Kate McKinnon and Jillian Bell star in this 20th Century Fox comedy movie described as, "two competitive women who are sent on a business trip to Canada. There, they hire a third woman off Craigslist to act as their intern, which derails their trip."

I worry that too many bigger names are getting involved. It takes away from the focus on the story. Lucas knew that back in 1976, only agreeing to Cushing and Guinness because of pressure from the studio, IIRC. The same distraction kind of occurred with Ewan MacGregor and Sam Jackson getting their roles in the sequels (showing Lucas broke his initial 'rule'). I'm not saying they'll do a 'bad job' though. I'm still hopeful for an Episode VIII that outshines Episode VII.

She's no Erika Eleniak.

Brilliant move Sony. Best possible way to rejuvenate a floundering franchise.

What I really wanted to say-

Disney/Marvel/Sony are Robert Downey Jr's bitches.

JIM CLEVELAND:

I assume you're kidding.
The INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE trailer looked awful with fake CGI like INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL and dozens of other phony-looking CGI movies.
The original movie's CGI was pretty good. As for the sequel's CGI, one step forward and two steps back.

As for Erika Eleniak, you looked pretty good in UNDER SIEGE and CHASERS, too.
She must have a thing for sailors.

Nope!!! I'm not kidding! I'm really looking forward to it! I don't have much to look forward to these days, but I AM looking forward to seeing this! I'm not too keen on CGI effects, but I didn't see anything wrong with these effects!

JIM CLEVELAND:

I ordered the remastered Blu-ray of the original movie which comes with a free alien space ship for $31.49. I hope the video is improved over the current Blu-ray.
The first time I saw the original movie, I didn't like it. After I realized it's a comic book movie, I now think it's a really top notch movie. I hope the sequel matches it---but it looks too overboard on the trailer.
