The movie opens tomorrow in Spain... so far no soundtrack album announced...
Any chance this might be released by Quartet, MSM or any other label?

Looks like prime fodder for strong scoring from Velazquez. I'm sure we'll here more about it eventually.

The film has not been released today, it is only a screening in a film festival. The film comes out early June and the album will be released, of course. "Zip & Zap 2" too.

In the meantime the wide release has been moved from June to September... so hopefully next month - unless that's an old news and it has been moved again since...

I'm listening to it now, it's a very melancholy score, quite similar in style and mood to Schindler's List.

Plenty of cello and violins, plus a magnificent (as mentioned on the Quartet website) "25-miunute tour-de-force piece for orchestra and choir" at the end of the CD.

A very good score, although probably not suitable for manic depressives. big grin

I've listened to this once through thus far and I couldn't really get into it. I have to admit I found myself "scrubbing" along a bit once I got to that ridiculous 25 minute cue. I'll revisit it again this week though before I write it off.

For my money, regardless of scope, THE ORPHANAGE and CRIMSON PEAK are pretty hard to top. I'm amazed the latter score is being discussed so little around here since it came out. It's one of the best scores to a major studio film I've heard in a while, and is unquestionably the riches score to a Del Toro film since PAN'S LABYRINTH. That "Allerdale Hall" cue alone is worth the price of admission.

I played the first 5 or 6 tracks on spotify over the weekend, but it wasn't the right mood music for what I was wanting, so I switched it off for another day.
Nothing grabbed me from what I heard and I also thought the newsreel opening music would have been better as a source cue at the end (it may work well in the film, but sounded inappropriate and out of place on the CD programme).

Absolutely tremendous score the Maestro has produced!! I am completely enthralled. War films are not happy-joy now are they? I find Velazquez can pull at the heartstrings like no other. The music is terribly gorgeous and sad. The 25 minute cut is pure brilliance! IMO this score and A Monster Calls proves Fernando Velazquez is THE GREAT Film composer of our times. Oh and if you could not guess- sad/depressing, nervous breakdowns and tense anxiety are my playgrounds.

that ridiculous 25 minute cue.

and

The 25 minute cut is pure brilliance!

Two differimg opinions from posters... I agree with the latter, it's a great track and not often we get to hear something lengthy like that instead of cues that are often far too short.

I agree with those who found the score quite lacking. Though I found a lot of Velazquez scores are not so interesting on the first listen and take some time to connect with the thematic material. It doesn't immediately have any exuberance and tends to be more on the moody dark side which I rarely connect with. I just barely after a few listens finally got through Crimson Peak without turning it off, though finally skipping those ghost cues.

Well, I've liked what I've heard from Velazquez so far, so I'm gonna take a leap of faith with this one. Will report back! smile

Do ya'll get what the film is about? War. In the immortal words of William 'Tecumseh' Sherman "War is hell" Nothing "exuberant" about that. Want a fun and exuberant Velazquez score? "Ocho Apellidos Vascos"fun and fantastic or "Sexykiller"! I forgot the to mention the Zipi Zape scores which are also tremendous scores. I know you bought that-Did you like it and the sequel?

Check the mans discog: moody, scary, dark, terrifying.

Well obviously I can tell what it is about. But as I have said before, just because something is fitting to the movie doesn't mean it is something I want to listen to on its own. There is a certain level of bleakness in music that at that point it becomes depressing and this is mostly in that area.
