Knight of Cups?
Yes, saw it last month. Quite wonderful - it ranks as my second favorite film of 2015. Another poem-mosaic movie like The Tree of Life and To the Wonder, better than "Wonder," if not as awesome as "Tree."
I got slammed on the Arts & Faith board for writing this "arrogant" note on my first impressions: 
"If you don't give what you have in your mind, heart, and soul to Terrence Malick's most recent film, it might come off like Willem Dafoe's laughable movie in "Mr. Bean's Holiday." If you do give all of yourself to this film and you still find it empty and pretentious, then perhaps you need to explore the notion that you have forgotten what is important in life and beyond. Do you look downwards to earthly matters and mere materialism, or do you look up to the sky as a limping bird does - yearning to get back up there?
In a dreamlike series of images, sounds, words and actions, "Knight of Cups" unfolds as a poem. An odd form for a movie - we're used to stories in films being told dramatically, or like novels. Three acts. A to B to C to Z. Malick has been attempting, especially in his last few films, to tell basic truths about flesh and spirit, nature and grace, living for the moment vs. living as a prologue to something better. Like all good art, you must add your own story, thoughts, memories and wisdom to what is presented to you. No, I'm not a well-off Hollywood screenwriter who looks like Christian Bale and courts beauties like Freida Pinto and Natalie Portman, but I identified with Bale's character's dilemma. Malick is reminding us of the age-old question: What good is it to gain the world, but lose your soul? So the "perfume-ad" glamour of his (and D.P. Emmanuel Lubezki)'s stunning images and women is necessary - we need to see the highest end of pleasure, happiness and comfort this world can offer us, and still note it's a shadow of greater things."

Saying it's better than the truly dreadful WONDER is not very encouraging, but if its on par with TREE I would be encouraged (as flawed as that film was it had many good things in it)

Yes, I've seen KNIGHT OF CUPS, but I thought you were referring to his brand new film -- which they ALMOST finished to be ready for Cannes in a couple of weeks (I'm going to Cannes this year, so I was a bit bummed that it didn't make it).
I thought KNIGHT OF CUPS was a fine film indeed. It's much better than TO THE WONDER, but not on the same level as TREE OF LIFE. My main attraction to it was to see Malick channel urban landscapes, discos and what-have-you -- which we've seen done so well recently in the films of Sciamma or Dolan; or the string of pulsating night life in films like SPRINGBREAKERS, THE BLING RING and Bay's massively underrated and misunderstood PAIN & GAIN.
We're used to Malick doing nature very well, but to apply this to a contemporary, urban, "high life" setting was a revelation. Showed me that he has far more "gears" as a filmmaker than what I had thought. Love the use of blue, neon, darkness.

I completely dislike it. If I'm ever on death row I'll ask them to play it for me and it'll make 2 hours seem like forever.
But I thought Mark R.Y.'s review was well written and thoughtful, when I read it on the Rate The last Movie you Watched thread, so I'm surprised you got slammed for it anywhere. And that's from someone who couldn't have disliked the film more if I tried.
I'll give it another go in a few years. I liked Thin Red Line but really didn't like New World, so maybe he's not my cup of tea as a director. But if anyone likes it, good on 'em.

A couple of people on that other thread thought it wasn't too gracious of me to insinuate that there's something wrong with someone for not liking this film! I never meant to imply that; I'm just saying that one needs to prepare to go where Malick allows our minds and hearts to go.

Walking past The Castro theater today and they have the poster up in the "Coming attractions" window.
Its called SONG TO SONG. The usual credits but i couldn't see a music composer listed.
One promising factoid: it is rated "R' for "some nudity" so we might get a gander at the two most luscious rump roasts in Hollywood: Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman!!!!!

Thanks to this thread I took the challenge and saw it yesterday. Another interesting meditation on the search for meaning, search for fulfillment, search for purpose. Mr. Bale wore his patented bemused homicidal glare for the occasion. Enough said there. As much as nobody does stream of consciousness as well on film--excepting Oliver Stone--Mr. Malick combines it with a sensuality pars excellence. This was no exception. In that regard loved the clarinet line in the underscoring.
But the depravity I can live without. Marred this viewer's experience. Acknowledgement of director's intent notwithstanding. TOL a much more appealing treatment of the great cosmic issues. Still, credit due per the context cited above for tackling said issues in a vastly different setting. Save for the shore scenes. And it has me contemplating a line about making "splashes" which I'm sure carries important meaning beyond my ken at the moment.
