I just finished posting my analysis of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith here:

http://cuebycue.blogspot.com/2016/05/star-wars-ep-iii-revenge-of-sith.html

I really think the prequel movies are unfairly criticized. The dialogue is terrible, there's no question, but as far as visual storytelling and epic...ness... it makes the Force Awakens look like a TV movie of the week. Anyways, that's just my opinion and it's obviously not the popular one.

Now I have to go back and listen to all 7 Williams soundtracks and try to pick a favorite... (actually I don't, "A New Hope" will always be my number one - that was the very first soundtrack LP I ever bought and one never forgets one's "first time").

Once again, Ed C, you've done a stand up job. An excellent read for those of us who love such things!

THE ARENA from Episode II that was heard in ROTS was unused in the film (Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones)

Really? I thought I might have heard a snippet at the end of the Kashyyyk sequence, tho I could have just imagined that. Can you tell me which cue/sequence it was unused for? The use of Arena is cited in a couple of sources which had me convinced.

Edit: Arena occurs at the beginning of the Kashyyyk sequence at 48:01. (whew) Oh wait, I think I misunderstood what you mean, yes that Arena snippet was unused in AOTC, I think I noted that in the AOTC post... (http://cuebycue.blogspot.com/2016/04/star-wars-ep-ii-attack-of-clones.html).

All this is really making me ache for expanded releases of the prequels....

yes that's what i mean - although the music for the arena sequence is pretty good the sequence works well without music - and i do like the use of it in Episode III when they march into the jedi temple

But about Episode II - there is more to it - the end credits version of Across the stars (soundtrack version) is a unique recording itself that mirrors the concert version sans opening part BUT is has been trimmed on album to do so and therefore there are som music written (and probably recorded) that is absent on the piece

Yeah I noticed that as well, especially since the last statement of the theme is harp/strings for the suite and on harpsichord/harp for the end credit - that was a giveaway. There was another case where I almost got fooled that something was retracked but was actually a new arrangement. In TPM Jar Jar's unused theme when he first meets Qui-Gon never gets heard, but I at one time though it was retracked for the Jar Jar - Padme meeting, but then I noticed it was very different. I'm sure for every cue we have heard there are many many alternates.

I really think the prequel movies are unfairly criticized. The dialogue is terrible, there's no question, but as far as visual storytelling and epic...ness... it makes the Force Awakens look like a TV movie of the week.

This statement pleases me.

And me also. Plus, I love the Episode III score, I think it might be my most listened-to Star Wars score in the last 10 years.
