Finally found it yesterday and am giving it a spin right now for the second time. This album makes for a rather weird experience but we are used to iconoclastic approaches from Morricone when it comes to space. I personally can imagine such music on a documentary about space but hardly on a TV series such as that one, with a storyline, characters, etc. But who knows, maybe it just works after all? Easterfinn perfectly described the mood of this album in this thread. Mathias, you'd better stay away from it because it's full of abstraction and strange sounds such as the ones featured in the Elettronica tracks.
Just a bit more info on the Italian film "Spazio 1999". The reason the thing was put together out of three episodes for theatrical release exclusively in Italy was because it was an Italian production company, RAI TV, that ponied up a good chunk of financing for the first season, or "Year One" as many call it, of the series. Their logo appears at the very end of the closing credits of every first season episode. By putting together a theatrical release, RAI was able to recoup a great deal of its' original investment, much in the same way Universal Studios did when they released the first episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" & "Buck Rogers" to theatres in the states & worldwide in the late 1970s. Ever notice why there were several Italian actors in the first season but, none in the second? That was part of the financing deal as well. A certain number of "name" Italian actors were guaranteed guest spots throughout Year One to ensure the financial backing of RAI.

Thank you for your advice Laurent! :-) I think I´ll pass this one, but I´m very fond of "Trasmissione difettosa, rotazione e rivoluzione" from "L'Umanoide".
