I rather like natural sounds in CDs (in moderation), like the storm and wind at the start of INTERSTELLAR or THE KEEP. I was wondering if there were any CDs of that kind of thing out there that were recommended. Not necessarily with any music. Just windswept plains and thunderstorms. That kind of schtuff.
I recommend diving into your local record store's bargain bin - or checking out the CD section of a thrift store. You're bound to find a number of CD's from Dan Gibson's Solitudes series - there are a number of Thunderstorm CDs - I have been spending my quarters on some of these after watching Interstellar as well.
Love that scene on where they listen to the sound of a thunderstorm.

Yes, i've just been listening to interstellar a lot recently and found myself wanting more of the wind and storm sounds. Quite restful and ambient and musical in its own right.
i think on the Boot of the Bladerunner soundtrack there were FX only tracks with Cyclists in rain i really liked too.
I like the Environments series from the late 1970's, TW. Three made it to CD: Seashore, Dawn/Dusk (birds in the morning, and temple bells above.
I'm gradually converting the other LP's from the series to mp3's and recommend the 2 rain ones: country thunderstorm ("woof.... mooo.... BOOM!") and city thunderstorm ("honk!"), the wood-masted sailboat, and the wind in the trees.
I converted this to audio, then burned it to cd. It is awesome:

I don't have any such CDs myself, but I have a 'sound pillow' for my chronic tinnitus -- meaning that there are small speakers inside my bed pillow, and I can choose any number of sounds (wind, forest, harbour, drizzle, distant storm etc.) that need to be set, volume-wise, right BELOW the sound of my tinnitus to make my brain re-focus, and I can fall asleep.

David, Ellie (my cat) loves this video. Thanks for the tip. I hit the full screen control and she froze instantly, enchanted by what was on the screen. Good thing she's a house cat with captive humans to feed her. She'd be a lousy hunter. While watching birds through the porch door, or on the video, she does this thing I call "chittering." Her lips twitch, her jaw quivers, and she makes these odd squeaking noises.
I have a few nature sounds albums. I first picked them up when moving to the big city for school, and then moving around for various jobs. Such albums should be easy to find. I also have whale sounds, wolf sounds, owls. I even have a multi-album set of "music" from the Voyager space probes. One track sounds almost exactly like "the Machine" in the movie CONTACT—intentional, I'm sure.

The thread title alone reminded me of a favourite end title of mine to a wildlife series that was on BBC 1 in the 70s. Now, this is no restful piece. But I did find it incredible at age, what - 12 - or something. Tried looking for it on YT, but to no avail. Looked to Wiki.. and nothing. Honestly Wanderer, I wanted to present you with this.
I'm sure someone called Boswell was the presenter. But the important thing is it had an end title that was made up of animal sounds put together so it had a beat!
Honestly, it was like a proper theme. It was full of - I think - bull frog noises and so on.
I recorded it, like I did with everything once I was bought a cassette recorder, as a tv theme. I did this with EVERY tv and film theme at that age. Wish I still had it. Along with the Lone Ranger theme which included next door's dog barking. No kidding, that would be SO nostalgic for me now. Sad I know but still...
