Brian is set to compose the music for the upcoming fantasy adventure "The Mummy". The film is directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. The reboot of "The Mummy" is set to be released on June 9, 2017 by Universal Pictures.
Cool beans! And according to Crowe, it's apparently been "designed to seriously scare the sh*t out of you," so hopefully that means straight, well-done horror, as opposed to action-adventure. If Universal goes the straight horror route with their new classic monsters universe, there could be real potential here.
So that would explain why Tom Cruise has Tyler's concert! Someone will put the picture of them on this thread, I'm sure - I would I'm work computer is rubbish.
"Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters."
Almost definitely yet another Hollywood special effects bonanza that will bore the shit out of all who go to see it.............shame really as Cruise used to make interesting movies many years ago and now it's all crap....
Writer Jon Spaihts says that this movie "Will be the first in the canon with the true power to terrify. The new reboot is going to be scarier than the 99' film."
The 1999 film was scary? This is news to me, and I saw it.
Uh, yeah, that's kind of like announcing Babe 3 as "even MORE terrifying than Babe: Pig in the City. If you thought the first two were scary, this new one will make you squeal all the way home."
I'm just not sure what kind of bar they're trying to clear here. But I'm hoping, guardedly, that we're in for some genuine horror all the same.

Yeah, did he even see that film, a sub Indiana Jones romp (& whatever happened to Brendan Fraser?). I think it should be a gothic horror & quite nasty with it, but with big stars & a big budget, I don't think it's going to be either. My main interest is that when the film opens next year & the DVD/Blu-ray is released, Universal will also release a Blu-ray of the restored Mummy Legacy set.
I'm actually interested in seeing Russell Crowe as Dr Jekyll, and the actress who was in Star trek Beyond is a great chouce for The Mummy. Spaights scripts could go either way. Cruise is okay in films for me, i tend to enjoy them okay enough, even i forget them shortly after viewing. Be interesting to see how much horror they put into it.
I don't think i own a Brian Tyler CD, can anyone recommend a good starting point to get into his stuff? I don't think i've seen most of the films he's scored.

Terror Tract (believe me, you're better off not seeing this movie) Darkness Falls (ditto) Iron Man 3 Frailty Now You See Me 1 + 2 Dragonball: Evolution Final Destination 5
Most of these are on Spotify (or YouTube, probably).
I wonder what direction Tyler's career might have gone had he chosen to write more music in the vein of the first 30 seconds here, and less of the wicked-awesome-2-cool-4-school-type stuff he pumps out nowadays.

Timeline is a great, dark medieval-action score with a beautiful love theme best heard in "Lady Claire and Marek" and a rousing "heading to war" theme heard in "Night Arrows" and elsewhere. Perhaps indicative of what we could get from The Mummy but with an Egyptian flair?

Didn't listen to the whole thing, but the first minute there is very Elfman-esque.
