New movie based on the novel. Looks like pretty standard territory for Desplat, but maybe he'll be inspired to new heights. Watch the trailer for the Fass-stache.

Just listened to the album. I'm not a big fan of Desplat's recent work, but this one is superb, somewhere beteween Barry and Delerue with a magnificent theme which reminds me of Morricone in Novecento mode.
The samples sound great, it feels like a mix of the romance of New Moon and the tragedy-led tone from Every Thing Will Be Fine and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. I feel like Desplat on his drama scores has been returning to his roots on French dramas with the more theme-driven approach ala Angel Illarramendi and John Barry. He also has been changing the EQ dynamics of his scores since Godzilla, his scores don't sound like the ones from 2003-2010.
Also, between The Light Between Oceans, American Pastoral, The Secret Life Of Pets, Florence Foster Jenkins and Rogue One, Desplat seems to have scored half of Hollywood this year xD
Like The Danish Girl I think this is one of those scores that is not easy to appreciate without having seen the film. This is not my preferred style of score from Desplat. I find it very emotionally draining to listen to
What a wonderful score- I must see the film as I believe like Sirusjr- it probably fits perfect. It is an emotional listening experience for sure. I find it very beautiful albeit-sad, lonely, and yearning.
