I suppose that the CD of MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION will be like the LPs and just consist of two long tracks. I'd prefer that they be broken up some more. There was originally a release made up of three 45rpm records. So conceivably, a segregation into six tracks, corresponding to the six 45 sides, would be doable.
Wasn't MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES issued by Disques Cinemusique up in Canada ? If Varese were to issue it, would it sound any better than the DC LP rip ? MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES is one of my favorite Frank Skinner scores.
I think Varese may possibly break up the tracks, unless they just feel the pressure to match the reproduced back cover or something. Whenever Varese has released an Encore of a title that previously was two tracks, they've been split up on the release...

Would much rather have had separate tracks myself.
Have just ordered this release and thought it would only be for one title as it is meant to be the last of the current subscription titles. Looking further into it have discovered that it has set up for me to receive one title a month for the rest of the year. Managed to change it though to select skipped for other upcoming titles.
Received my copy yesterday. This is easily my favorite of the bunch. I was surprised to learn that this was mastered from a vinyl copy. Does the Decca/UMG master no longer exist or did Varese not have access to it for this project?

I am afraid this will not be answered as I have asked them many times to be clear about thier sources. The story behind the use of vinyl remains a mistery I am afraid. How do you know it was mastered from vinyl, do you hear any pops and clicks or a lot of backnoise? Can you please be a little more specific about this?
For the vinyl-mastered titles, Varese has been putting a statement to that effect in the credits section of the back cover.
Yavar
Yes it is stated on the back cover mastered from best available vinyl sources and credits decca and UMG. I noticed some distortion around the 11 minutes mark other wise it sounds good.
Hi, Peter, thanks for the answer, just like to know: why didn't people at Varese use the titles first where the master tapes are still available before reaching for alternate sources or has that something to do with copy and master rights.
Ups... my card was charged just a few minutes ago for another $20.
I thought The Final album in the LP to CD subscription series was Magnificent Obsession.
What is going on ????!!!!
Same here. Guess the company they are using (OneLive) to charge for these screwed up. You know, since they went to OneLive it's been nothing but trouble.
