The latest in my occasional series sparked by "sightings" of the Roman God of Score.

Mrs TG and I returned yesterday from a glorious few days in Wales, during which we visited the Italianate village of Portmeirion for the umpteenth time, having first wandered in there in 1990. As we were eating lunch, a local brass band struck up. The second piece they played was "Nella Fantasia". I hadn't heard it in that style before, and they made a really good fist of it. (Perhaps the same arrangement as Mr Greg's brass band in the separate thread?)

Portmeirion is small enough that you could hear the band from just about anywhere in it, and I didn't catch any Grainer, which was a slight disappointment.

Interesting. Is that where the series "The Prisoner" was filmed? Or am I thinking of someplace else?

It is indeed the same place, which is why I believe TG mentioned "Grainer".

From 1983 I stayed in and visited 'The Village' every year, usually starting with the The Prisoner conventions organised by Six of One The Prisoner Appreciation Society, of which I was a member. There were a few occasions on the Sunday afternoons when Ron Grainer's theme was played by the brass band. Lovely times. It's especially nice wandering around in the evenings, when the tourists have gone, pint of beer in hand..

Beautiful day number 6.

Yes, i love this place. Must go again. Good that they choose Ennio stuff.
Yeah id wanna drive around Portmeirion playing grainers theme as my Merc becomes a McGoohan Lotus 7.

As it is, If im driving and that theme comes on in the car i speed into the nearest undeground supermarket car park, march into the managers office and resign!

And perfectly adaptable for brass or silver band, I'd have thought.

Bill - love the idea of you resigning from a job you don't have to the astonishment of the local Gavins!

Very cool! One time my wife took me to a Greek festival in Corvalis Oregon. When the small group that was playing traditional Greek music did ZORBA THE GREEK I started to hang around them to see if they would do other film music. Out of nowhere they did Morricone's tarantella from ALLONSANFAN that Tarantino brought back in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS. Well, it is dance music.

Heh - and you can recreate number 6's escape attempts by rolling around in a kid's sandpit at the local primary school with a blown up condom pushed into your face.
