TUESDAY, MAY 17

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY---the book ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY: THE OFFICIAL VISUAL GUIDE contains a listing of the movie's main characters.

Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso, a gifted soldier and warrior.
Diego Luna plays Captain Cassian Andor, an officer in the Rebel Alliance
Jiang Wen plays Baze, a freelance assassin
Alan Tudyk plays the CGI character K-250, an Enforcer Droid and evidently an imperial model, but teams up with the rebels
Riz Ahmed plays Bodhi, a rebel soldier
Pao, an alien who is described as a “fierce warrior”
Donnie Yen plays Chirrut, a spiritual warrior
Bistan, another alien who is described as a “fierce warrior”
Ben Mendelssohn plays “The military director of the Empire, to defend the Galactic Empire against the Rebels mission to steal the Death Star plans.”

The book also has artwork for the Rebel Starfighter.

THE PREDATOR---director Shane Black commented on rumors of Arnold Schwarzenegger returning for the sequel, “These things all happened in 1990. But now it’s 25 years later. So in other words, if Arnold’s in it – which I’m not allowed to discuss [laughs] – he would be old Arnold.”
He said about the title, THE PREDATOR, “There is a reference in the script as to why that makes sense, but I’m not really supposed to talk about it.”
Black also commented on the villain in IRON MAN 3, “There was an early draft of ‘Iron Man 3’ where we had an inkling of a problem, which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft. We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and ‘We’ve changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female.’ So, we had to change the entire script because of toy making. Now, that’s not Feige. That’s Marvel corporate, but now you don’t have that problem anymore.”
He added, "In the earlier draft, the woman was essentially Killian – and they didn't want a female Killian, they wanted a male Killian. I liked the idea, like Remington Steele, you think it's the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show. They just said, 'no way.'"

SUICIDE SQUAD---Warner Bros. and DC Comics are developing a spinoff movie featuring Harley Quinn, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie will return as the star/producer.

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Chloe Bennet (MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.) commented on MCU's movies ignoring the tv series, "People who make movies for Marvel, why don't you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don't you guys go ask them that? Cause they don't seem to care. The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don't acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that [be a part of the MCU], but they don't seem to keen on that idea."

MEG---Fan Bingbing (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) will co-star with Jason Statham in the movie based on the novel about a bloodthirsty giant prehistoric shark.

BUCKAROO BANZAI AGAINST THE WORLD CRIME LEAGUE---Kevin Smith and MGM are developing a tv series based on the 1984 cult classic movie, THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8TH DIMENSION!, "Basically you just do the entire movie for season one, then season two you finally do the sequel we've all dreamed about, BUCKAROO BANZAI AGAINST THE WORLD CRIME LEAGUE." Smith will consult with Earl Mac Rauch, the movie's writer, and hopes that Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum , Christopher Lloyd and other original cast members will return. Smith wants Weller to play villain Hanoi Xan.

NUDE NEWS---Kim Kardashian's five-word acceptance speech for receiving the first Break the Internet Award at the 2016 Webby Awards, was, "Naked selfies unti I die."
Also, Madeleine Stowe (12 MONKEYS, REVENGE) was naked in bed with husband Brian Benben when she went to the bathroom to investigate a noise. She was confronted by an armed burglar who, in broken English, demanded loot. Stowe gave him $75,000 worth of antique jewelry. The suspect, Walter Canizalez, was later caught during another burglary wearing a Spider-Man mask and was charged with robbery and sexual assault.

CBS---the network renewed CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS, THE ODD COUPLE, CODE BLACK and UNDERCOVER BOSS. It cancelled RUSH HOUR.

TRANSFORMERS---the latest sequel's title is TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT.

X-FORCE---Bryan Singer said the X-Men spinoff movie is being developed and might feature X-23, the female version of Wolverine.

TETRIS---US/Chinese movie underway based on the video game.

At first, they had lots of movie character cameos in the show. Then the show wasn't a huge hit and they cut down on that. In addition, the events of the show no longer have a way to tie explicitly into the movies the way they did in the end of the first season. It would be neat to have show characters cameo in the movies. It would be neat if the two sides of the thing could work it out so that the show could more closely track the movies and respond specifically to those events. I suspect that would have happened if the show had been huge. But since few people are watching it it's not really a priority for them.

That's pretty much it. Ratings are abysmal. They only keep it on as a network owned one hour commercial for the movie universe.

This I don't understand. If a bazillion people see the movies and only a tiny fraction of them see the show . . . in what way is it functioning as an ad for the movies?

Yeah I dunno. I think it's more about keeping the "name" out there in-between movies. Kinda like Coke commercials. Do they really need Coke commercials to sell Coke? It just reminds ppl the "universe" still exists. And yes I am totally making this up!

Except that it isn't much of a commercial for the movie universe. Sure, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will react to some of the things that happen in the movies, but otherwise the show and movies share the same universe in name only. The Hydra that the agents from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. go up against is completely unrecognizable from the Hydra that Captain America and the Avengers fought in Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron. What motivates them, and what makes them a threat are much different. The only real promotions of any movies are a couple of clips and trailers that are shown just before a Marvel movie is to be released, and maybe some references to scenes from some of the films in some of the characters' dialogue. Chloe Bennet's comments are fair, but I can also see the movie production's perspective as well. The tail doesn't wag the dog, and if continuity was kept too tight, there is a big risk that the tv show could possibly spoil future movies.

Honestly, shows like Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel provide far more promotion for the Marvel cinematic universe than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could ever hope to. It will be interesting to see what will happen with the Marvel tv shows. With Agent Carter cancelled, and ABC passing on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, it seems Marvel tv's main focus going forward is on the various Netflix series.

Not really disagreeing with what anyone is saying. But at the same time news of Agents of Shield is always hitting the airways, print and the internets. It gets a lot of press for a show who's ratings are in the tank. If I recall it's not doing much better than "Selfie" which arguably was considerably less to produce and was canceled after 13 episodes.
