Hi community,

what do you make of the soundtrack of the new trailer?

First parts sounds too Marvel universe, second part sounds like Star Trek the video game.

Not that impressed by the generic CGI footage to be honest. Star Trek needs a haul over from the by today's standards crappy DS9/Voyager/Enterprise era 'VR' looking effects and needs to make space look appealing and dangerous/mysterious again.

I think it's as ludicrously overproduced as the trailer itself. And the logo. It looks like the 3d-equivilent of a Geocities site.

But ... but ... it's ... Star Trek?

I guess I'm just a hopeless fanboy and will love everything Trek.
Not too impressed by the visuals either but hearing the melodies again and I'm in.

Although... I would have loved something completely different even more.

Love this or hate it, this really has nothing to do with the series. This was put together by some promotional department at CBS so they could have a splashy visual to show to advertisers at the network upfronts.

The CGI has actually progressed quite a bit, actually. If you take DS9 S3, compare to DS9 S7 and then compare to Voy S7 to Enterprise S4, it's come very far. And even Ent S4 was early 2005, and 11 years is a long time for SFX technology to progress.

Production on the new Star Trek series will begin this fall in Toronto, Canada.

So we have a teaser for something that doesn't even exist yet. Could have scribbled something on a napkin during a corporate meeting and it would have been just as exciting.

I love how Sol's opinion was much the same as your own, but then you give him the push-back.
Heh. Weird.

Did it come off that way? Not my intention. And my "push-back" was only meant in jest.

My opinion is only that this promo wasn't really made for us. I've seen people around the internet misunderstand its purpose. In May, all the networks present their next season's shows for advertisers at the "upfronts" in New York City. Until a few years ago, nobody who wasn't in attendance would see what they showed, but now that these things get pirated anyway, the networks have mostly just posted their promotional reels online. (NBC seems to be the only holdout.)

So in this case, somebody in promotions had to create a teaser of sorts for a show that is eight months off. They cannot show cast (there is none) or even a spaceship, but they have to convey excitement and spectacle. So they came up with these zipping planets and fast-paced music. It's all smoke and mirrors, yes, because they have nothing to show. Were it not for the upfronts, there would have been no need to create anything at this point. But Les Moonves had to show something while he discussed the upcoming show, so this was made.

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing solium's napkin!

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing that myself--he's a pretty "sciencey" guy!
LOL

It has everything to do with the series. The current rumor is that it's a series like "True Detective" where each season is a different story, running between the events after Star Trek VI, and before TNG.

The video shows Praxis, and then Veridian III, almost confirming what the show will be about.

It looks like it was an audition piece for the composer. It's unclear whether he'll be writing for the show.
