I've recently noticed a unique desk lamp that appears in several Universal Horror pictures. It's designed like an oil lamp, but apparently, has been converted to an electrical one. It first appears in the Baron Frankenstein's study in SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, but then reappears on Cedric Hardwick's desk in GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN, then of the desk of Lionel Atwill's Mayor of Vasaria in his office in FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN, only to reappear again on the desk of "Professor Lazlo" in SON OF DRACULA, and then on the desk of Onslow Stevens' "Dr. Franz Edelmann" in HOUSE OF DRACULA! The lamp is often positioned in the foreground of shots as a framing device for the characters.

Apparently, someone in the prop department at Universal in the forties really liked that lamp. I'll bet it's in other Universal movies of the period, such as the Sherlock Holmes films, but I have yet to search it out. I wish I had the time to do a screen grab of it. Maybe someone here who has GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN or SON OF DRACULA on DVD can oblige?

Munsters Mansion? I know the mansion was also a house used in Leave it to Beaver and maybe The Burbs'.

Interesting story.... the "Munster Mansion" was originally called the "Maxim House" and was a facade of a turn-of-the-century Brooklyn neighborhood house built on Universal Stage 12 for the 1946 Myrna Loy/Don Ameche movie "So Goes My Love."

In 1950, the Maxim House and another facade built for the movie, the "Allison House," were moved to Universal's new backlot set called "Colonial Street."

The Allison House was used as the house in "Harvey" in 1950 and in 1966 in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." The Maxim House was used in a movie called "One Desire" (1950) and became the Munster Mansion in 1964.

As far as I know, both house facades still stand on the backlot, the Colonial Street set, used in many productions including "Leave It To Beaver," was renamed Wisteria Lane for the TV series" Desperate Housewives," where both houses were often seen in the background.

"Tish" Addams was very often heard saying "Thank you, Thing!"

Sorry...

Does Robby really count as a "prop", though, as opposed to a "costume"?

At any rate, while he's had quite a few appearances, I suspect there are any number of other props (mostly far more mundane, but not all) that have had far more appearances.

Any Dark Shadows fans? The quilt that often showed up during the series run - the one with the black border - showed up for decades on ABC shows.

Looks like its best incarnation was at Expo '67, where the serpent's head and the mace in its left hand were still intact.

Marvelous creation! Most effective!

I came across a "British Pathé" film clip:

"USA Pavilion At Expo (1967)"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-8DfWJJlMs

From 00:01:17-00:01:19 you can see the imposing 11' Prodigal idol in the background; unfortunately in b&w.

What about the computer bank that was used in pretty much everything Irwin Allen did?

With reference to the post by Mike_J on May 20, 2016 - 7:47 PM

This was the IBM AN/FSQ-7 computer.

.There is a terrific website called "Starring the Computer" which catalogs computers that are used in movies and tv. In particular there is a VERY large entry for this machine:

http://www.starringthecomputer.com/computer.html?c=73

Quoting from the web page:

"The AN/FSQ-7 was a key component of the Semi Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) system used to track and intercept enemy bombers in the late fifties and sixties. It was the largest computer ever built."

Followed by a LONG list of shows that it has appeared in.

And there was the ElectroData/Burroughs B205 user console. It was seen before and after Allen.

"Burroughs B205" (or at least it's console)

http://www.starringthecomputer.com/computer.html?c=45

Quoting from the web page:

"This was the Burroughs Corporation's first electronic computer, although in fact it was simply a rebranded Electrodata Corporation machine (Burroughs having bought Electrodata in 1956, shortly before the release of this machine)."

Followed by a long list of shows that it has appeared in.

What about the computer bank that was used in pretty much everything Irwin Allen did? ...the IBM AN/FSQ-7 computer....

A few years ago, I stumbled upon Woody's Electrical Props in Sun Valley, California. It was a fantastic place, an Indy-Jones-scale warehouse full of gizmos, computers and spaceship parts from just about every movie and TV made in Hollywood in the last 50 years. I was in heaven, particularly when the manager show us their FSQ-7. At my request, he lit it up and it instantly transported me back to "The Time Tunnel" (etc.). Sadly, it did not make the sound effects from "The Six Million Dollar Man".

It was originally painted a glossy black for THE PRODIGAL, then green for TARZAN THE APE MAN and ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT. But it went back to black for Expo ‘67.
I have color photos from all three, and a kind of dim one from Expo, but still don’t know how to post them.

I saw something on YouTube about a tube of red lights that was used in loads of stuff including ST:TNG and I think ST:TMP.

Found it: https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/112348/is-this-star-treks-most-used-background-prop

Haha! I remember that scene from Airplane II! Though I had no idea it was an actual Star Trek prop with a history behind it.

Yeah, the light tube thingy was the first prop I thought of. Star Trek, The Incredible Hulk Returns...I think even V might have used it.

I too was interested in including images - so asked Lukas (the "Benevolent Overlord" of this website) and was told:

"Actually you can't POST an image...you can only link to one already hosted on another site, and have it display inside your post. (Otherwise, we'd run out of memory, with people posting lots of images.) Click the "special code legend" for instructions. Thanks for understanding!"

And so I opened the "special code legend" and found out what was needed for "IMAGES" - a URL link without the "http://" within the "url" keywords. So then I went about creating the URL link string.

Tried and failed with Google Photos - required a third party URL link (with no guarantee of permanency). Finally got it to work using Flickr. I found the following web page to be most useful - especially the instructions under the heading of "Get a direct URL to it":

https://help.flickr.com/en_us/share-or-embed-flickr-photos-or-albums-rJBx6mjyX

So here goes - a still extracted at 00:01:19 from the "British Pathé" film clip mentioned previously:

By the way the idol is seen through the brass end of the bed that Debbie Reynolds' slept in the MGM movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (1963). Both of these props were later sold during the MGM Auctions in 1970.

Some good stuff about re-used clocks, "computer" control panels, Daleks, locations etc. in old sci-fi on the Dalek 63•88 YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANaw7_Aumhk&t=12s
