Would Bear McCreary be an offbeat choice? He has shown skill at both ethnicity and lyricism.

Solium, I agree that J N Howard would be the best choice.

Reviewing the past few years, it seems like composers like Sivestri and Patrick Doyle who scored Marvel movies are dropped for Brian Tyler. Desplate and Giacchino score a lot of the major movies. That is why I think Cameron would lean towards one of these three.

After J N Howard, I wouldn't mind seeing Patrick Doyle score Avatar or John Powell. It might be interesting to see what C. Lennertz or M. Mothersbaugh could do with a major motion picture.

I realize that it's still a little soon to discuss this even though it has been 11 months since James Horner's untimely passing in a plane crash. But I want to ask if anyone has any idea as to who is writing the music to the film. Of course the movie has sadly been pushed back to Christmas 2018 as to avoid the Eighth installment of Star Wars.

I would say that James Newton Howard would be a good composer for it. John Williams as well (even though I don't really like his music.)

Would you rather have Cameron edit Horner's old score to fit the new movie or have a new composer write it.

I am willing to bet YOU..OP....That John Williams will never ever, ever never score a James Cameron Movie. BET!

That's a fairly easy bet to make.

Marco Beltrami or Christopher Young.... only good candidates left...

JNH is way too exhausted and generic these days, but on the other hand if anyone can make him do something good for a change, its probably Cameron.

Next time you see JNH at an event or concert or ask for an autograph, be sure to repeat that exact phrase to him. Let's see how willing he is to sign stuff for you. smile

The only association I've ever seen between Cameron and Williams is that both attended the George Lucas AFI Achievement Award in 2005.

None of those composers are even up to the task. I can't imagine even replacing Horner but John Williams and Murray Gold the composer for the new Doctor Who's shows) joint effort maybe even using some themes but probably best to start fresh. They are the only ones who's themes come close to the joy and heart that Horner could instill.

Why not Simon Franglen adapting and expanding on Horner's Themes with additional music composed by himself? Simon did a great job on MAG 7! I agree with jfallon.

Who cares about Avatar 2? I'm really excited to see who (or whos) scores Avatar 3, 4, and 5!

As much as I enjoyed the first Avatar, it really is a shame Cameron is wasting so much time on those sequels. I'd rather see him do something else.

As for the music, would love to see Silvestri get the job.

I totally agree with this.
There was so much more music for AVATAR that was composed by Horner that was not used in the film & has never been heard. No this for a fact.
Have Simon Franglen adapt the original music & save all the discussion of a new composer.
I for one - cannot imagine AVATAR without James Honer.
No one is going to be satisfied with the final outcome anyway.
