I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be a thread about the september 2014 passing of director George Sluizer, perhaps best known for the two THE VANISHING movies from 1988 and 1993.
THE VANISHING--a European director getting to do the U.S. remake of his own film. That's got to be a highly unusual situation. Although, didn't THE RING director get that chance also?
From my own point of view, I'm partial to the remake of THE VANISHING as the original is WAY too bitter a pill for me to swallow. And, I'll readily admit that I have NO idea what accent Jeff Bridges was trying to affect in the remake.

Uneven though it was, I also prefer the remake. In its favor, Goldsmith's nicely moody score.
