Typing now from tablet. Slow and annoying.

Does anyone else find that this board is really annoying to navigate on a touchscreen tablet? I prefer to open each new thread in a new browser tab, rather than having to reload the board homepage every time after reading a thread. If using my tablet, when I try to 'right-click' (ie, tap-and-hold in tabletspeak) a thread title, at least 50% of the time I get asked not if I want to open a new tab, but if I want to save an image. Weird. (The image, if saved, invariably turns out to be small, white and blank.) I've tried making the page larger so that I can aim at the thread title text better, but to no avail. For the record, my fingers aren't particularly fat (cue Simpsons meme). I don't need the whole site to be remade as an oversized swipefest like many modern websites, but it would be nice if they could try to fix this one thing. I emailed the board mods about this about six months ago but got no response. Has anyone else experienced this??

I use Hacker's Keyboard- a full QWERTY keyboard for tablets and phones (I've actually never used any pre-installed keyboard- they look stupid, incomplete, and unusable).

Hacker's Keyboard gets a little cramped sometimes, but it's somewhat configurable and still very usable on phones in portrait mode (most cramped of all).
I've learned to embrace auto-correct and the inevitable backspacing/retyping.

Most phones/tablets let you connect full keyboards and mice, usually with a USB OTG adapter.

Hypothetically, the mouse might work for my situation too... I don't know though, it would probably cancel out the point of using a tablet in the first place, namely convenience. A mouse would need to be carried around in a separate case as it wouldn't fit in a tablet case (some keyboards might fit). And a tablet mouse could only be used adjacent to a decent-sized flat surface at the correct height, so forget about using a mouse to navigate on a tablet in an armchair without a table nearby, on public transport, sitting up in bed, etc. I might consider it (or just get a laptop) if this was a frequent issue with browsing on a tablet, but this board is the only site I've come across that has the problem.

I'm just saying that you have the option of using these peripherals.

Sounds like what you really want is a current generation touchscreen laptop.

You could also use a bluetooth mouse or keyboard. I use my tablet with a bluetooth keyboard for client meetings because the tablet is shorter in landscape mode than my laptop screen and doesn't block the view as much. I like having the Samsung Note tablet because I have a stylus I can use when needed that is always with me.

Another keyboard option is Swiftkey which I have been using for years. I type much faster on a screen with that though usually only if I am in portrait mode. You also have the option of dictating your text any time you want which is getting pretty damn accurate.

I'm reconsidering selling this because I might need a smartphone-type-thingy for a future job.

Would this Samsung GalaxyTab fill the bill?

Depends on what you need it for.
I think a minimum requirement would be any device with Android version 4.x and a good wifi connection. If you need connectivity from anywhere while on the go, you may need a cel phone data plan (and this Tab may have a cel phone chip in it, depending on the model).

Can you tell us the model # and android version?
You should find all that under- Settings/About Phone or Tablet

I use a phone-size device only on wi-fi (I have not activated it as a phone).
So long as you have a wi-fi connection you can do everything except voice calling and texting (I have a cheap dumb phone for that).
Mind you there are times I don't have access to wi-fi where I would have cel reception.

I will probably need to be able to make phone calls (so a phone plan will be in order, once I get the job), at a minimum.

I'll check this out and get back.

(And thank you, Adam, for being patient and helpful to me, as someone who is new to this generation of technology.)

Samsung AnyCall
Galaxy Tab

The first screen said "No USIM card in device"

Model # SHW-M180s

I think the "About" screen was in Korean. I'll check again.

This appears to be a tablet from 2010 (running a really outdated version of Android- if It even has Android), for the Korean market. No wonder it was abandoned.

This link may help you get to english menus.

Since it takes a sim card, I think you can go to ATT or Verizon or the like and buy a service plan and a SIM card. Or there are pre-paid (and probably cheaper) sim card plans sold at places like Target or T-Mobile.

I'm back to the plan of
1) Downloading the Kindle app
2) Buying the Raksin book
3) Reading it before Christmas
4) Then selling the tablet to the young man who wants the tablet for his music. (He'll get the Raksin book as a bonus, I guess!)

"Amazon App for Android phone.

We are sorry, but the Amazon App is not supported on versions of Android below 4.1."

Oh, brother. Is this something I can fix?

"Curb side" is not the same as the internet, Solly. It's a crap shoot! It's a gamble!

Nuts. No Raksin book for me, then.

Did I mention already that I sold the tablet to a youth who wanted to put his music on it? Now I've got a double sawbuck burning a hole in my pocket.
