Hi everybody,
For those of you who do not know me - it's been ages since I last posted here on a regular basis - I am a young composer and writer trying to make my way in this big, nasty world. I recently uploaded some of my work on YouTube and I would like to invite you to listen to it and give me your feedback:

Since most of my work as been strongly influenced by Silver and Golden age film composers, I have decided to include this thread in the General Discussion section of the board. I hope you don't mind.
Finally, you are all also cordially invited to check out my articles on film music published in FSM online. Give me your feedback! Don't be afraid to praise or criticize what I do. It's all part of an artist's life.

Yours truly,

Alex

Sorry, Alex! I listened to some of your clips (didn't have time for all).

It's overall quite well-written, although the influences are clearly heard (Rozsa or Barry, for example). I was hoping for a bit more "Alex Klein" and a bit less influences, but you're still young! smile

In either case, I'm impressed you got access to acoustic players that play quite well. You definitely have a melodic gift. And the background paintings were neat too. Did you do them?

Alex,
I think you've got real talent. I particularly liked your Overture and Quietus. You have a real feeling for orchestral color. Thanks for making this available and keep at it.

It's very nice stuff. You should edit your original post and add the names of the pieces, and a little bit about them. Some context would help me appreciate your efforts more. But you're clearly very talented.

Very nice music. I especially like the solo female vocals and the first link. Nice peaceful feeling.

All nice.
But to me the 1st., Alia Op.18 is pretty wonderful. The others are nice but somewhat monotonous (to my ears ).
Hope don't hurt your feelings.
I would like to hear #1 over and over, the others no.
Such a wonderful piece doesn't come isolated, you must have the chops!!
Best of luck, because obviously you have the talent.

Some lovely stuff there, Alex. We played some of the links during halftime in the France v Albania game and I had to mute the tv at the start of the second half as the family were enjoying the music. My oldest just became your 12th subscriber!

Hi Alex,

I enjoyed listening to your compositions. I’m no musical expert, but I know what I like. I enjoyed number 7 “Lied” and number 4 Ipa Op 17. Great use of a female soloist. Another favorite was number 2 Overture 25. I liked the brass usage and the Middle Eastern or Romanesque sounds. My favorite was number 1 Alia Op 18. That was a lovely melody.

Are you still in Bogota? I know at one point you mentioned you would be coming to the U.S. to study music, possibly Seattle or maybe California. Did you get here? Are things going well?

Just hope you get your big break and can one day score movies.

Thank you Thor, for your comments! You're spot-on regarding my influences.
I am an old-school composer - I write everything down on staff paper and all my performers are real. I suppose that could be detrimental for me in some contexts (film?), but I want to keep the real musical performance alive as much as I can.
The paintings were done by my good friend Catalina Aguirre, who is credited under my name. I will post a link on YouTube so that you can see her portfolio.
Thanks for listening!

Thank you for your comments Joan!
I am still in Bogotá. I applied to Film Scoring programs in Seattle and Ireland and I got accepted to both but i'm still weighing my options. Student loans are a double-edged sword, so I want to make sure I make a good decision before I embark on a $50.000 plus debt.
Now that you mention this, any advices would be very welcome for sure!
