A very sad, horrendous event. R.I.P.

My thoughts are with her immediate family, especially the two young children who have lost their mother.

It's grotesquely evil, isn't it?

You tell yourself that every human being is infinite and transcendent, and capable of great spirituality and wisdom and the highest in Love. You tell yourself that 90% of the planet are good people, even if we all have our shadows. You almost hope that entropy will roll upwards and given 'freedom' and enough time, everyone will reach sanity and can be relied on.

Then you see this raw hatred. And it reminds you of the internet. Search out any YouTube video, any blogsite, any Twitter page, any place where Joe Public can leave a deposit, and count the number of dark, faeces-smeared downright evil comments ... ANY place, always the same.

Say what you will, yes there have always been madmen, but hatred is the CLIMATE in public debate, and the inane internet fuels it too, I'm sure. In a world of philosophical illiteracy every knee-jerk malevolent lacks the capacity for self examination. This is the result.

She was very virtuous, worked for Oxfam abroad, was a socially minded MP, a mother .... very popular.

Orlando and this tell the same tale. The 21st Century is declining and progressing in equal measure. In this case they say the gun was 'makeshift'.

All that I've read about this lady has been positive. Why are fanatics or crazy people allowed access to weapons? I know, I know. Anyone can get a gun or knife. Still, this was a horrid tragedy and a reprehensible murder.

The shock of this for me is "In the UK? This kind of thing in the UK?"

Extremism and the intolerance it breeds are spreading like a plague all over the world.

sad thing about this the police already knew she was being stalked on followed for months but they took a dim view on it & this is the outcome, she seemed like a very nice lady caring & sharing, reminds me of a couple of years ago when that teacher in leeds worked over 30 years as a teacher at that school then she retired and then come back for a few days just to supply the school with help as a Gesture well she was stabbed to death in the class room full of kids. so much freakish behaviour its hard to grasp sometimes about motive. hard drugs they can not control or jobless nobodies that have to much time on there hands all day & they are sick of life, so they resort to violence. these sort of losers need to be thrown in to the army or put them a sleep they have no use in life, R.I.P. Mrs Jo Cox a very kind lady.

You shouldn't be surprised, and it's not new. We get our share of lunatics, but fortunately the relatively sensible attitude towards guns in this country makes it rare that there's ever more than the occasional isolated incident. When there is - Dunblane, Hungerford - it only serves to strengthen national resolve not to make firearms more freely available.

This one is hugely regrettable for politics and of course a tragedy for her family and friends. I don't know what the etiquette is for this, but the other parties shouldn't stand up candidates for the ensuing by-election.

She had a a great track record with NSPCC, Save the Children, Oxfam etc., and visited many war zones, Gaza, Uganda, etc., both before and during her tenure as MP. When in London she and her husband and kids lived on a Thames houseboat. It's always the best and most imaginative and compassionate ones who go. It's still not clear whether this was a crazed anomaly, an intervention gone wrong, or a political assassination.

Again, avoid the 'comments' sections of any videos, which are filling up with utter lunatic conspiracy theories of the most outlandish kind, mostly from international redneck territory. Obscene stuff too. That's why the best people hate social media. Freedom of speech for bowel gas.

I'm hoping the House of Commons videos don't contravene the 'no politics' rule, this is in tribute to the lady.
