So, we are very nearly at 22nd June, 2016, one year on from the death of James Horner. I don't know yet what I'll be cueing up to play on my MP3, but I can imagine 'The Rocketeer' in the playlist somewhere, and probably 'Apollo 13'. It's still strange thinking there'll be no more new soundtracks from Mr H. frown

I'll be playing music from The Horsemen that day. I like to think that kind of music was on his mind as he was flying that morning

A year already.

Its still all hard to believe. I think a day like today is one to consider all the wonderful music Mr Horner wrote, those different favourites we all have. We will always have that music and it feels wrong to mourn the future music we might have had if he had lived. His family and friends lost something much more than just scores for future movies.

I guess what I'm saying is, rejoice in what we have. The world is a better place for what Mr Horner left us and those that love his music are all the richer for it.

Currently listening to 'All the King's Men'. Where John Williams is the Art/Intellect of my film music interest, and Jerry Goldsmith is the Energy, Horner is the Heart and will forever remain so.

While out walking I played 'The Rocketeer' and 'The Journey of Natty Gann'. I'm now onto 'Braveheart' (the original CD, as I unfortunately don't have the LLL release).

I'll start today with his last greatest accomplishment, Wolf Totem. His music is a gift that will last forever.

Still sad that his voice was silenced a year ago. Rest in peace, Maestro.

I composed this for Erik Woods' Cinematic Sound Radio tribute to Horner last year. Horner was and is a huge influence on my own compositional style. In this track, this was of course, an ode to Horner. Still deeply miss his voice in the world of film scoring.

I posted this on my Facebook page today and have been listening to his scores all day.

It's so hard to believe it's already been a year since this musical genius' voice was silenced so prematurely. It's a lesser place without new music from his pen, but he left behind an incredible body of work.

This is what I wrote when he died and it resonates just as strongly on the first anniversary of his death.

I didn't know him personally and I've lost family and good friends over the past year and this doesn't touch that, but this is still a kick in the ribs for me. James Horner was my first film score obsession, the first composer I hunted record stores for music from. Like a number of folks, Star Trek II was my introduction to his work and it remains a brilliant score and one of my favorites. Star Trek III is breathtakingly beautiful and was my first LP purchase at 16 years old. When all my friends were buying Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top and Van Halen albums, I was scouring the soundtrack aisles for James Horner scores, and those are some of my favorite memories. Walking up and down Tower Records buying cassettes of Aliens, Brainstorm, Willow, Gorky Park, Cocoon 2, Red Heat and others, listening to them in the car on the drive home from the store. Wearing them out over the weeks and months, getting my friends sick of music from Star Trek's II and III, Krull, Clear and Present Danger, The Land Before Time, and The Rocketeer. My closest friends knew his name before the rest of the world did. I even got a call from one of them when Horner won the Grammy. His music ignited my passion for film scores.

Over time, his style and my tastes didn't match, so he dropped from #1 to #2, but that was still a rarefied place in my list of composers and it's not a criticism of his work; it's an indication of where my interests were. His music moved me and shaped my feelings. I will always appreciate the years of joy he provided.

I listened to FSM's Star Trek II release last night as my tribute to Horner. It's not only my favorite Star Trek score but it's my favorite score from Horner. Hard to believe it's been a year all ready.

ClassicFM's 'Saturday Night at the Movies' programme devoted the whole two hours to selections of Horner's music tonight. I recorded it and I'm listening to it now. Unfortunately I don't think it's available online as CFM don't seem to have a catch-up service. The programme page is: http://www.classicfm.com/radio/shows/saturday-night-movies/25-june-2016/

Thanks for that. I couldn't see the player as it has to be accessed via the 'Listen' button, then go to the 'Listen again' tab, then find the programme title in the list, then select the programme date from under that. It's all reliant on a serious amount of javascript as well, which I block most of due to the ridiculous amount of advertising crap and malware that comes through with it.
