Independent U.S. distributors Shout Factory have detailed their upcoming Blu-ray release of director Michael Winner's film Death Wish II (1982), starring Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, Vincent Gardenia, J.D. Cannon, and Anthony Franciosa. The release will be available for purchase on July 26.

Synopsis: Paul Kersey is no victim: He fights back – with a vengeance! Legendary tough guy Charles Bronson resumes his trademark role as the hard-as-nails urban avenger in Death Wish II.

With the murder of his wife and the revenge against her killers now behind him, Kersey begins a new life in Los Angeles. But tragedy is never far from his door, and when a group of local hoods viciously assault his daughter, they unleash a wrath unlike anything the city has ever seen. Kersey has the face of each of them branded in his memory, and he will not rest until he tracks every one of them down... and puts them all in the ground! This hard-hitting, action-packed sequel also stars Jill Ireland (Breakheart Pass), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) and Vincent Gardenia reprises his role as Detective Frank Ochoa. The film also features a rocking score by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

Special Features:
Both The Theatrical Cut And The Unrated Cut Of The Film
NEW Audio Commentary With Author Paul Talbot (Bronson's Loose!: The Making Of The Death Wish Films)
Theatrical Trailer

I think that people that know me here know I love tough guy fiction, but even I have to admit to having abandoned this one. It's just too sleazy to derive any enjoyment from it. I like dark heroes to be sure, but this film bathes in degrading women and treating human life as if it were worthless.

The first film remains a classic and has a lot to say about the nature of violence, but I rather wish part 2 had been forgotten with time.

Really? I thought 2 was ok. Not death wish standard but It had enough originality to be interesting.

That said it was probably Winner's last half decent film.

And the less said about death wish 3 4 5 the better! wink
They got cheaper and smaller scale - the one where the rock steady crew in 80s flannel headbands were throwing molotov cocktails at clapped out cars, jeez. Awful.

Sorry if my post came off as harsh. I used to like the film when I was younger, but found myself a bit shocked upon revisiting it. It was just an uglier movie than I remembered. But it is not without it's moments to be sure. It does contain perhaps one of the best lines from this type of film ever:

Kersey: (pointing to cross around criminal's neck) "You believe in Jesus?"

Criminal: "Yes sir. Yes I do."

Kersey: "Well, you're going to meet him."

*snicker* Classic.

Death Wish 3 is the best. It's pure comedy.

Plus, i like the bad guys in 4 and 5.

Because such things never happen in real life.

Trying to pass Brixton off as America, and then filling it with a gang that is like something out of The Warriors but with less sense of style is just ace.

It's filled with tons of English actors you'd see in bit parts on TV, including Privates Crowe and Frost from Aliens.

Is that supposed to be profound? Cause it's not.

Yeah months ago. It looks good. I don't think the additional footage enhances the film in the slightest though.

Too gritty for my taste.
Part 1 is the only good film in the franchise...
Part 2 has been available on Unrated DVD in europe for over a decade. :-)
