After Ray Faiola mentioned that Goldsmith's EXECUTIVE DECISION score commenced with a tuba solo, I noticed that Williams' 3 LOST IN SPACE scores on the single disc have got tuba for days, tuba to beat the band, and tuba that just won't quit.

Any other notable tuba moments?

P.S. Tuba solos that accompany elephants onscreen do not count. Too obvious! smile

There's a great tuba solo in the later part of "Riding the Firemares" from Horner's magnum opus, KRULL.

He also wrote a somewhat complex part for it in WILLOW - It appears in a few cues with a harpsichord.

I'm sure there must be plenty more...

Bernardo Segall's score for CUSTER OF THE WEST used a lot of tuba to add an element of pomposity to the martial music.

So tuba or not tuba. Is that the question?

After Ray Faiola mentioned that Goldsmith's EXECUTIVE DECISION score commenced with a tuba solo,

Did I do that?? I don't even know the score!

But as long as we're on the subject of tubas, when I was about 11 years old, I flew by myself to Miami (yes - in a plane!). I sat next to an elderly gentleman who, after we began talking, revealed that he was a tuba player in the RKO orchestra. The MSMS journal later had a photo of this gent. I wish I had been older when I met him, I would have had a million questions!.

You're right, I'm wrong! smile

It was Roger Feigelson.

Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan has a good tuba solo in it.

Shootout from BATMAN - cool moments already at the begining as a Hook

But also when Batman attacks Jack Napier

I have only one "tuba moment":

The norwegian national football team had played a crap game, and the boss of the football association said that the players should rather start playing tuba.

Yes, they were THAT bad.

Didn't John Williams utilize the tuba to represent Jabba The Hutt in his Jedi score? Maybe tuba is short for tub-a-lard.
