Ohhh, I already have the 2 previous editions, but all the above PLUS the great price kinda makes it a no-brainer.

It'll probably be around a few weeks so it can fit into my budget, let's hope.

Fine job, LaLa. big grin

Btw, what exactly was the problem with the Prometheus mastering? Lossy source or just lower quality one?

Such a fun score! Thanks, LLL... and as long as you're in the mood to talk re-issues and pirate movies, any chance of a HOOK re-issue for those of us who missed out a few years ago...? smile

People always complain that the Prometheus release sounds flatter or less dynamic than the original release, and then Ford comes in and starts screaming and calling names.

I'm not normally one who notices these things, but both the Prometheus AND the original release always sounded less powerful than the film to my ears, the main title flat in comparison. I really hope that with the "Dream Team" on the job, this LLL edition will be definitive.

Both the original album releases and the PROMETHEUS release used John Debney's own DAT Masters of the original 2-Tk Stereo mixes which were just fine for the time.

This new release they went back to the multi-track elements for this 2016 version.

Looking forward to it myself.

I think his issue was that both used the same sources. But this one seems to be a fresh take.

The price is great especially if you never owned either releases.

I only saw this movie once years ago and never remembered the music... but after listening to some clips on YouTube, this just shot to the top of my shopping list!

So...looking at the tracklist....

The cue 'The Rope' seems to be missing. As does the album version of 'The First Kiss'. And 'The Wedding Waltz' is pushed to after the score (I assume it's a source cue)
Also the extended version here of 'Discovery of the Cave' is about a minute longer.

The mp3 site samples sound INCREDIBLE.

As for changes...they appear to be the ideal ones.
The Rope appears to be retitled Dawg's Pets
The First Kiss album track was just a replay, without the second half being Dawg's Plan. So nothing missing.

I prefer the moving of Wedding Waltz to later in the presentation. Also Film Version of Discovery of the Cave and the breaking up of the 18min battle at the end into seperate tracks is long awaited not to mention a fuller sound mix.

The awesome Prometheus release got a lot of spins to my ears since 2005 so bring on a new take! So excited for this new version. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.

Totally agree — the Silva album never sounded as good as many other albums of the era. 1995 was hardly the days of low-fidelity, and if you listen to albums like JUDGE DREDD, WATERWORLD, etc., CUTTHROAT never quite reached their level in terms of power and clarity.

Then you should have taken up this with JOHN DEBNEY, he delivered the master to SILVA SCREEN that they used?

I know, I gave him the address so he could send it.

I frankly never would have noticed it being lacking if I didn't have the film itself to compare with, but even watching the crappy DVD of the film out 10 years ago, the main title sounded a lot more powerful than the CD version.

P.S. to Ford: what makes you think we want to take it up with Debney? He wrote an amazing score (easily his magnum opus IMO, though I love a lot of other things he's written), and I presume he didn't have access to the original multitrack tapes that LLL is accessing for this reissue.
