WEDNESDAY, JULY 13

A MONSTER CALLS---trailer released for the movie based on the children's book starring Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMgm20Di9Wg

ALIEN 5---Sigourney Weaver gave additional information about Neill Blomkamp's movie which is a direct sequel to ALIENS and ignores ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION, “It’s a great story and it’s satisfying to me to give this woman an ending… The script itself has so much in it that’s so original, but also really satisfies the, I would say, the primal needs of the aliens. It’s a tribute to all of the great work that the other directors have done, in a way, but goes in a completely new direction. I hope we’ll do it.”
She added, “Fox asked us to delay so Ridley could shoot his [second] Prometheus movie. That was too bad because we would have already done it by now. Now that we’re waiting for that, I have a couple of Avatars to do and Neill has The Gone World, so we’ll have to see what happens when we get back, when those projects are over.”

JOHN McTIERNAN---the director (DIE HARD, PREDATOR, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER) said he's a fan of the original MAD MAX movie, but said FURY ROAD was, "Pffff … corporate product."
He said about comic book movies, "Comic book heroes are for businesses... these are films made by fascists. Captain America…The cult of American hyper-masculinity is one of the worst things that has happened in the world during the last fifty years. Hundreds of thousands of people died because of this stupid illusion. So how is it possible to watch a movie called Captain America?"

THE MIST---Alyssa Sutherland (VIKINGS) will co-star in the Spike TV series based on the Stephen King novel.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH---Zendaya is in negotiations to co-star with Hugh Jackman in this musical biomovie about PT Barnum.

POKEMON---Legendary Pictures is in early stages of developing a live action movie based on the video game.

DARKEST MINDS---20th Century Fox movie underway based on the young adult novel trilogy about a pandemic that kills most of the children and teenagers in America. The survivors have superpowers and are put in internment camps where some try to escape. Jennifer Yuh Nelson (KUNG FU PANDA 3) is the director.

SHOCK AND AWE---Woody Harrelson is in talks to star in this Rob Reiner movie about journalists investigating the claims of WMD before the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

X-MEN---Fox X-Men spinoff pilot about the parents of mutant children born with superpowers. They join an underground mutant network which resists the government's attempt to persecute them.

SAW: LEGACY---brothers Michael and Peter Spierig (DAYBREAKERS) will direct the latest sequel.

COMMUNITY---Dan Harmon commented on a theatrical movie based on the tv series, “If I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just from my own mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are going to show up to make it. Whereas, on the other hand, if I wait for everybody to line up and say, ‘We’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie!’ well, I guess that’s a bad idea too.
It’ll make a great movie. It’ll happen. ”

IRVING---tv series underway based on the life of composer Irving Berlin.

Wow, yay - John McTiernan is alive! Haven`t heard anything from him for a long time. Disagree completely with his Fury Road comment, somewhat agree with his Captain America comment, though find no reason to make the association with the films. Perhaps in a world in which pro-American propaganda/sentiment feeds the malleability of the masses for the benefits of oligarchy, yes, I see how it contributes to that end. Some. But hardly to the extent that I condemn it, or decry it as without worth.

Besides, Captain America was conceived on the basis of solid, good ideals, humanitarian beliefs. Honest sentiments from idealistic artists. Allen Dulles (sign-of-the-cross) didn`t create him.

I completely agree with McTiernan, but didn't the guy go to prison for some bad thing or other? Problems with ethics at the very least. You know what that means, don't you?

Next announcement: John McTiernan to direct BATMAN VS CAPTAIN AMERICA ON FURY ROAD!

Why is a new series based on The Mist necessary? The film by Frank Darabont was well done. He even improved the ending, with King's stamp of approval.

Wasn't it tax evasion or something? One of my favorite directors though.

Yet another once-great director yelling at kids to get off his lawn. Where does it end?

If it's as good as she says, (esp. ignoring 3 and Resurrection) I'd prefer it over any Prometheus project. Ever.

POKEMON---Legendary Pictures is in early stages of developing a live action movie based on the video game..

I've heard that a live action version of Pokémon is very popular in Jamaican prisons.

I confess that though I enjoyed SAW 1 and 2, enjoyed to a lesser extent 3 and 4, and sat through 5 and 6, SAW is a done deal. Anything more is just pushing it.

I think any further efforts may be just indulgences of effects people concocting new diabolical trap mechanisms/circumstances. I like diabolical, but hey...

Sorry for the second post, but Ridley Scott`s delay of Blomkamp`s ALIEN 5 (call it whatever) was totally unnecessary. Prometheus was crap, and that had nothing to do with competing visions. It was that way because of cliche character failures and absurd character decisions. Strange that such an adept director as Mr. Scott would make them. Regardless, making more of those in a sequel (?) would have in no way been impeded by an ALIEN 5. And whether a bad movie is made now or later, in the company of better movies or not, does not alter or adjust its badness.

Prometheus was crap.

It certainly was, and they are not even going to call the sequel Prometheus 2.

Just get ready for a bigger piece of crap. Number 2, oh yeah.

Alien and Aliens were great because they didn't try to explain everything. It doesn't matter where they come from, or how something came to be in what are essentially big budget B" movies. Retaining the mystery is more imaginative and interesting.

This is why sequels are generally a bad idea. They suffer from TMI, and it's usually a let down or ridiculous. I don't need to know where the aliens came from in Alien. I don't need to know why the Aliens attacked in ID4. I don't need a scientific explanation of The Force in Star Wars. Filmmakers are just digging themselves into a hole.

Ah! So this is where David in B got his "Pfff" running gag from!

I don't understand the John McTiernan comment. He's condeming the exact kind of movies he directed?!

And the makers of Captain America movies (Hollywood types just trying to make a successful movie) are fascists?

I know what he means and agree in general with his assessment America feels it has a right to be the worlds only superpower and damned the consequences enacted on anyone not American. But I don't think that's what the filmmakers of CA had in mind.

McTiernan is a pretty good director. But he was in prison for 4 months for lying to the FBI.
Too bad his name wasn't Flynn or Stone, he would have been in good shape.
