Tonight at the Academy Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Struck from the original negative. Absolutely Stunning. I had heard for decades that the sound on this film in 70mm was phenomenal. The rumors are true.I think the best I've ever heard in a theater.

One of the most thrilling moments in the Cinema....

The lights go down, The Jets' whistles pierce the dark and then the Overture Crashes on to the screen!

Oh to see a 70mm print again.....

How lucky you both are! No one (at least those younger than 40 or 50) get how exciting a 70mm print and sound could be! I envy you both!

So true, saw the film presented in 70mm twice. After seeing it alone, weeks later, my grandmother came to visit. Talked she and my mother into seeing the film. We all went on a very warm summer night.

New print, eh? Was the overture visual correct? The Blu-ray is a horrid mess for the overture and completely wrong.

The Overture was as I remember. The print was supposedly newly struck for the Academy Archive from the original camera negative and it certainly was flawless in every way. The negative is very well preserved for a film of that age.
