Daniel Pemberton is reteaming with director Guy Ritchie on the upcoming fantasy adventure King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana. The movie is a new take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. Ritchie has also written the screenplay with Lionel Wigram (Sherlock Holmes) and Joby Harold (Awake). They are also producing the project with Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Constantine, Hancock), Tory Tunnell (Underground) and Steve Clark-Hall (The Winter Guest). Pemberton has previously collaborated with Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch) on last year’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword will be released on March 24, 2017 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
I watched the trailer today, it looks breathtakingly dreadful. I imagined it would be a video game crappy version, but it is at least twice as bad as I thought.
Some day studios will stop throwing buckets of millions of dollars at this garbage.
The newest trailer was yet another in a line of dreck, but Pemberton's score I will be most excited for. The guy is crowned best "new" composer in decades, as far as I'm concerned. Any details yet about a soundtrack release?

Yeah, I think this is going to suck. Composer is fine as such but has never done anything singularly interesting. He boasted how much he can scream as part of the score back in the Composers event in September. The score will not be traditional but it could be thematic in that John Murphy style . When they realise the film is fucked, go to Jessica Curry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFX_YtSnKgk

If you don't think The Awakening, Man from UNCLE, Steve Jobs, and Gold are singularly interesting film scores, in this day and age, then please enlighten me.

And don't forget The Counselor! Pemberton is one of the most interesting composers working today. This is the man I want to score the next Bond film.
King Arthur looks bonkers but I'm really looking forward to Pemberton's score.
At September's film music event in London, Daniel Pemberton was asked about a future Bond score but he seemed reluctant because of the inevitable comparisons with all that had gone before......
Just out from the press screening. The score is very tribal with many live instruments (especially percussive) and some Celtic flavour. No thematics, just rythmic ideas, very raw and harsh style-think McCreary's Black Sails. It really gives energy to the film even if it's not epic at all, but dark and ferocious. So, yes, it's a kick-ass score.

So no tunes then ? I have recorded some 6 scores with Daniel in Prague including his first ever orchestral scores ...always interesting ideas

Except for two songs, no. It's not melodic scoring at all, besides short motives here and there which essentially carry the rythmic stuff. It's really a down-to-earth score, very organic, and it's terrific. You can hear a sample at the beginning of the new trailer (from 0:15 to 1:04) ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX9y5JPuRHY
