Today is Yorkshire Day! Originally Minden Day, commemorating the Battle of Minden in 1759 in which the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry played a major part, almost nobody outside God's County knows about it - and precious few inside the Ridings either...

So to help change all that, I'm going to play some John Barry, who of course is one of Yorkshire's favourite sons. And I'll be spending the whole day in England's biggest county to express my solidarity.

What are YOU doing for Yorkshire Day?

Isn't this in the wrong forum?

And who allowed the Yorkies to have a day of their own? They'll want independence next!

Isn't Minden Day when new army officers have to eat a raw rose in the mess? I think it used to be.

I'll be watching an episode of A Touch of Frost, which was produced by Yorkshire Television and filmed in Leeds, wherever that is.

The series also boasts an evocative, only slightly dated theme (minus the Fielding-esque snare drum):

Here's a Touch of Frost thread where FSM geniuses discuss the series:

Just because you're one of only 17 Americans with a passport, it doesn't mean you've seen all the world's great cities....

Since TG mentioned John Barry, it qualifies I'd say. In terms of celebration I myself will be drinking only Yorkshire brewed beers today. Much of it brewed in Barnsley, and you can't get more Yorkshire than that tha knows...

I'm definitely the only American FSMer with a current passport, I can tell you that. These boys don't get out of the (parents') basement very often. wink

Your silence regarding "A Touch of Frost" is ominous.

OMINOUS. frown

For Yorkshire Day, I am going to let Jim know that I am one of the 17 FSMers who has a current passport. (And I'm also wondering if Yorkshire Day is a political topic and that I should report all of these funny talking Brits to the moderator.wink)

Yeah, Bill, I'll have a "cuppa."
