Lately we have been spoiled by Intrada with alternate covers for their releases. Sometimes as a nod to a original release, sometimes using images that weren't on a soundtrack before. Although I prefer to use the 'original' cover as front in my music library, I enjoy the alternates immensely. Sometimes they can be superior to the original. Most first soundtrack releases use poster art as the basis for their design. There have been exceptions. Some use art for a teaser poster, not the final poster art (Christopher Gordon's Daybreakers comes to mind, and Blanchard's Malcolm X) or a lesser known poster (Horner's Brainstorm). A few use little to none artwork: Star Wars, The Force Awakens. Se7en does, as does the very odd cover to Goldenthal's Demolition Man and the score deprived song album to The Lost Boys (1). The Marvel shows at Netflix had merely logo's for their soundtrack releases (to my chagrin, the artwork for the posters was lovely). Only a handful have artwork original to the soundtrack release. The cover for Elfman's Batman was the first and only time I saw that lovely still from the film. Same for Star Trek II. That pic of the Enterprise in warp was , to my knowledge, unique for the score-release. Carpenter's Assault at precinct 13 had a nice enough poster, but used an odd still from the movie for it's soundtrack release. Same for Thomas Newman's The Lingiuni Incident. And I can't remember seeing a poster with the photo used for the soundtrack of Goldsmith's Not without my daughter. Do you know any other examples of soundtracks that had original artwork? Promo's and new recordings (2) do not apply of course. And, what do you think of 'm; do you prefer new artwork over movie poster design? Examples in new posts to keep this from cluttering.

Almost all of the Monstrous Movie Music releases have new artwork. Some by Vincent DiFate! I think Intrada's BUCK ROGERS and BATTLESTAR GALACTICAs had newly commissioned art for the CDs.
