My wife told me that, before we got together, David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" was her film litmus test for pursuing a relationship.

I don't think I ever had a film litmus test.

Did you - or do you - have one?

I don't, but I'm wondering how the BLUE VELVET litmus test is supposed to go.

No, but I have to look at you funny if you don't like "The Pincess Bride". Inconcievable!

If you want to test the old girl, take the old hen to a Sam Peckinpah (look him up, Millennials) film festival. Starw Dogs should make for a fine date movie.

Or better still, a Three Stooges festival. Women are always going on about how they love a guy with a sense of humor, well, let the Tre Stoogi put that platitude to the test!

So if the prospective has an acidic sense of humour it becomes Red Velvet?

One of my old flames wore a red velvet dress from time to time. It did not augur well, that one.

I took my then-girlfriend to the cinema for the first time to see '1492 - Conquest of Paradise' when it was released and she promptly fell asleep. Ever since she's been highly dubious of my choice of films, though she still decided to marry me...
