DOCTOR STRANGE---a source said Robert Downey, Jr. will have a Tony Stark cameo in the movie. If Perry Mason was real and Robert Downey, Jr. knocked on his door, Perry would tell him, "Sorry, I'm going out of business," and shut and lock it.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 ARRIVAL---first official trailer released for the sci fi movie starring Amy Adams. Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ennvCITY1F8 Arrival looks good. Very Michael Crichton kind of vibe. And Amy Adams is always worth watching. I was thinking 'Sphere' meets 'The Abyss', with flavours of 'Close Encounters' and 'Prometheus'. I have a feeling this is ground that has been covered by science fiction quite a lot before and I'm wondering what their angle on it will be, so I will be reserving judgement until I get a chance to see it. But I hope it turns out to be something special. Yeah, the film seems to be an amalgam of various other sci fi concepts -- THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, SPHERE, INDEPENDENCE DAY, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS etc. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. It all comes down to Villeneuve, and if he's able to put his stamp on the material. From the trailer, you can definitely see some of his trademarks -- the dusk/dark lighting, red/black elements and the music, which is very Johannsson-ian (but probably not composed by him). I'll await another trailer before I get a better "grasp" of it, but I definitely think it looks promising.

SPHERE is a fantastic movie, one of the best sci fi movies of the 90s. I'll defend that film untill the day I die. Great book, great movie!
