Only $9.99? I'd pay more. Oh, I just remembered, I don't have either a 3D TV or 3D Blu-ray player -- but I may in the future.

Anyway, can you give use some details of the restoration? How close is the image to the original camera negatives in this transfer? Will I be able to look at the movie in 2D on this Blu-ray? (I can always enjoy a modicum of the 3D effect by just looking at it with one eye.)

Also, and this is very important to a cinephile/movies-on-video coinsurer, will the cover of Blu-ray feature original ad art?

As Rory asked, will this look okay on standard 2-D equipment? Or are there separate discs as there seems to have been in other releases? There's a tiny screen image on Bestbuy but it doesnt indicate anything.

Were any music-only elements available? A soundtrack release would be awesome.

Yes, this will also play flat on a standard Blu-ray player.

No music stems were available. We used the final three-channel magnetic masters mixed for theatrical release in 1953.

There was a heavily compressed and modified two-channel mix done for VHS release in the 1980's.

There's no comparison to the original from 1953!

Coincidentally, I watched this movie again yesterday (after years/decades). Nice little picture with a fairly humane message. The monster's pretty good too - we might laugh a bit now, but it must have been a jaw-dropper in '53.

One thing that struck me from watching it was that the basic premise of The Invaders was not exactly a huge stretch of imagination for its creators. wink

Thanks for the info, Bob. Was that vhs mix used for the dvd?
Will there be any bonus features? Tom Weaver commentary supplied a commentary for the dvd.

We're lucky with what we can get. Thanks much for your efforts. I wish everyone that worked at the home video companies had your kind of knowledge and dedication. I'm sure you have a good idea of how much I wish that.

Oh, by the way, with the Universal FRANKENSTEIN and WOLF MAN collection Blu-rays coming in a few weeks, can you tell me again how the 4K FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN looked at the TCM festival last spring? I read somewhere where you said it looked dark, but I don't expect that to be too much of an issue on video. Would I want to know is if they did as complete a digital cleanup of the original nitrate negs as they did with DRACULA or FRANKENSTEIN? Of course, I'll be finding out soon enough, I assume, because I'm not even sure it's going to be this same 4K restoration on Blu-ray.

Oh, and I forgot to ask, this Blu-ray of IT CAME... It's being released by Universal Home Video, correct?

Thanks very much for the kind words, Rory!

The new restoration of FMTW matches an original 35mm nitrate print that I once owned. All masters of the past five decades have been brightened. You're finally seeing the film as the creative team intended.

IT was a VERY costly restoration so no bonus features.

The DVD also used the modified re-mix.

Yes, this is a Universal release.

Great stuff...and cheap! I'm not even into 3D (sorry Bob), but I have to buy this, it's my favourite Universal b/w fifties science fiction film. I think the last four months of this year are just amazing for Blu-ray releases.

Keep watching the skies!

I guess we'll just have to live with the Tom Weaver commentary just being on the DVD, and if you want to watch the movie with the best picture quality you just watch the Blu-ray.

I don't really have a problem with this because if I really love the movie, then I keep both the DVD and the BD, get a case that will hold both, and, since we can see that the cover isn't original poster art with this title, then I print out my own cover and problem solved.

Anyway, about that Tom Weaver commentary.... I like Weaver. He's honest about the movies he discusses and he doesn't hold back in what he thinks are "flaws" with IT CAME.... But, I have to say that his commentary for the original THE WOLF MAN is a real hoot.

It Came From Outer Space was the second 3D film I saw as kid back in 1980 in an anaglyph version. Along with The Creature of the Black Lagoon which was shown shortly before it was responsible for turning me into a lifelong fan of 3D. I remember I saw the film 3 times within the week it played.

To finally get a chance of getting a decent 3D release of this picture (IMHO Jack Arnold's best) is fantastic news. I hope it will become available through other sellers soon as Best Buy doesn't seem to deliver internationally.

Keep up the good work.

I like most of Jack Arnold's '50s Science Fiction films, but I think THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN is his best.

Cool! I'm very happy with good 3d, and would love to see this movie that way, but I don't yet have a 3d-capable player or screen. I'd certainly like to get one eventually, though. I do sometimes get 3d versions of movies on Blu-ray, since virtually all of them also include regular 2d discs I can enjoy now, and when i someday get a 3d system, I'll be ready with several movies to take advantage of it. I'm thinking now of adding this one to the collection.

It was certainly a jaw-dropper for me in ’63 when I first saw it! As a child, the scene in which Richard Carlson (wasn’t he the best in these films?) comes face to face with one of the aliens really got me. Even tho we had gotten glimpses of it before, something about the darkness of the cave and then the gradual appearance of that eye was terrifying, yet there was some comfort that a grown man couldn't bear to look at it. Still had me sleeping with the bedroom closet light on.
This is one of those rare films which leaves you wishing for more. The movie was almost too short. A bigger budget and this could’ve been a major blockbuster.

Bob, thank you for your excellent work! Pre-ordered!

Mr. Furmanek, I just want to tell you that I so enjoyed reading all the fascinating information on 3D films on your website--from its origins, as well as the backstories on notable 3D films such as House Of Wax. I feel that your site is a college course on the subject.

Wow, that's quite a complement.

There was a book written in the 1990's on 3-D Movies that is still in print. Sadly, it's riddled with errors and when the author didn't know information, he basically fabricated some data. Our website is an attempt to correct many of those mistakes.

Thank you very much, Spence!
