the CD I have does not include the percussion piece where the children take down Yellow Hair's gang. It was on the LP "Music of the American west" which was the title on both sides of the LP. Had to laugh.
Nope! There's a 30 minute CD from Varese or a 45 minute(ish) LP release from an unknown source. This score needs some serious TLC and ONLY Varese can apply it!!
Really? I could have SWORN there was a 2CD release of this just a few years ago. But I'm totally out of the loop regarding expansions and stuff; things just arrive and 'swoosh' -- right past me. With what could I possibly be confusing this, then?
As I recall, a few years ago, Bear Family Records announced a box set titled JOHN WAYNE'S WEST - IN MUSIC AND POSTER ART, which was scheduled to include some sort of reissue or expanded version of THE COWBOYS. While the box set was ultimately released, nothing from THE COWBOYS music-wise was included.
that was Missouri breaks Thor came out by Kritzerland a couple of years back, the original soundtrack is good enough unless there's a lot more music 2 discs I wouldn't buy it.

Ah yes, that's right -- MISSOURI BREAKS got an expansion! I had totally forgotten that (the original Rykodisc is more than sufficient for me). I think that may be the confused title, although tx's mention of the John Wayne box also rings a bell.
Incidentally (and to repeat what I've said in the other COWBOYS threads), my Varese CD has the channels reversed. No big deal, though.
the sound is good enough like the Dracula thread people complaining about the quality, give me 2 full length scores on 2 discs or I don't need Cowboys or Dracula again.

To clarify, Kritzerland's 2-CD release of The Missouri Breaks includes the complete film score recording as CD1, and the album re-recording that was previously released by Rykodisc and Varese Sarabande as CD2.

Fascinating! And frustrating! I want to buy this now.
I wonder if Varese (who managed to sort out the proper royalties and rights legalities, as the old LP was a bit of a boot/promo jobbie), stopped the Bear Family proposed issue going through, as they have dibs. Maybe, somewhere in the future, a lovely expanded collectors edition is coming from Varese? Feel free to interject anytime DMD
Love that theme. How many of you know there was a short lived tv series sequel to the movie, which featured most of the cast (sans Wayne of course). Only had about 12 episodes, but I hope the WB Archives puts it out someday.

Yes. I remember this News. But I wonder what happened? Obviously the music source exits in full complete order. Maybe it was a rights issue or maybe Williams himself got a whiff of it and had it stopped for some reason?
