All I can tell you is that it is a crime/suspense/mystery of some sort. At the end, the detective or whomever is strapped to the table and an evil doctor is threatening to open him up without anesthesia. Suddenly the authorities burst in, the doctor quickly raises his knife, and then he's shot just in the nick of time.

Saw this when I was a kid on TV and not knowing the title is driving me crazy!

I'm pretty this is NOT what you're looking for, but try THE GHOST WALKS on YouTube.

There was a doctor in "King's Row" who operated without anesthesia, but it didn't end the way you cited above.

Might this be the noir you seek?

It sounds a bit like the ending of "Charlie Chan in Egypt" -- where an evil doctor has a very sharp and gleaming scalpel in hand and is about to cut into the existing gunshot wound of a young man (not Charlie Chan -- but the young male romantic lead of the film, Thomas Beck) who is unconscious and bedridden and alone. The doctor sits bedside, starts to insert the scalpel into the wound to puncture the victim's heart -- but is interrupted by police and Charlie Chan:

This is also most likely NOT the film you are seeking -- but you never know!

Hey John LOL that Charlie Chan scene is not it all right but it sure compares well, I was suddenly a kid again and ready to freak out!

And hey Jim, I watched the opening and instantly recognized Darla's Dad a/k/a Mr Hood i.e. all he had for lunch was lettuce & tomato or whatever on gluten bread LOL!

Hey Ron, neat one too. And I'll trade you the King's Row scene for Doc Meade, amputation without chloroform and GWTW. smile

I'm going crazy. In my mind Boris K is the evil doctor but I checked all his doctor roles and nothing matches. Damn, how can I remember Agnes Moorehead from that TZ ep from when I was 4 years old and not know this one?!eekroll eyes

While you're there, check out MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. I'm absolutely sure it's NOT what you're looking for.
