Do you work your body on a daily or weekly basis?
Do you have a personal coach?
Do you practice cardio with a HITT and a Tabata protocol?

Quick Reminder

HIIT: High-Intensity Interval Training.

Tabata protocol: a version of HIIT was based on a 1996 study by Professor Izumi Tabata. The study used 20 seconds of ultra-intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 cycles).

It's for real, Thor. So do you do cardio?

I never work out. I walk 2-3 miles each way for work/school, sometimes at cardio rates if time is of the essence, and on days off usually hike or head to the lake. I take the stairs. I keep moving throughout the day. I enjoy helping friends movie and other diversions that involve lifting heavy objects and moving in interesting ways. But I've always found the gym, exercise for the sake of exercise, to be extremely boring, and when, intermittently through my life, I've tried to pick up hobbies like running, I've never gotten that "runner's high" that I hear about, regardless of how many miles or how much time I work up to.

I'm much more interesting in maintaining a healthy lifestyle -- eating reasonably well, moving often, playing, etc -- than having a "gym body" (being cut or ripped or whatever). When possible I'll study my notes while walking on a treadmill, so that I'm moving instead of just sitting (much harder to doze off that way!), but I'll never hop on the treadmill just for the sole purpose of exercise.

The only concession I have to the game is that I have installed a pull-up bar in my apt. Not many opportunities naturally arise to pull myself up anywhere and I like the idea of being able to lift my own weight.

Not really. I work out once or twice a week (some weights, some treadmill jogging), but that's only for maintenance. I'm rather fat around the waist at the moment, clocking in at a record high 91 kilos -- mostly due to my lifestyle (I adore beer, chips and carbs in all forms and shapes) -- so I know I have to lose a few, but I will NEVER be interested in cardio or workouts. It's an evil necessity; I will never get the passion for it, sorry. But impressed by those who do.

The problem here is that this latest craze of 'just a few minutes of very high intensity training' is just one of a long line of ebb & flow. There was 'Go for the burn', then 'All you need is walking', then this. And there may be very recent research that we need HOURS daily, coming out of Scandinavia.

After a certain age, weight-training is the best for maintaining testosterone levels and metabolic rates, though bodyweight exercises are having a resurgence. As regards cardio, it's worth experimenting with the new short interval training. But if you're a couch potato please don't start with burpees! Build up to them!

The BBC's doctors did a scientific documentary on this recently. It's not online, but here's a short clip:

reports and medical research reckon sex is 1 of the best exercises, but only if you can last long enough for all different positions.

Sixty minutes of high-impact running, five to six days a week; upper body weights and push-ups three to four days a week.

I'm in decent shape.
