Hi folks, I have a Samsung HTIB, and I'm unsure what configuration to put for the "user equalizer". I've had the HTIB for a while, and I've just used the default till now (i.e. zero). The range is +6 to -6 for each of these: 250 hz, 600hz, 1 kHz, 3khz, 6khz, 10khz, & 15khz. Any recommendations? Incidentally, I've noticed sometimes when words are spoken containing the letter "S", that the "S" sounds a bit too sharp (not sure if that's the right word). Would changing the EQ affect that at all? Richard G.

Applying EQ is largely a matter of taste, apart from extreme abuses of low end and such. Start with everything at Zero, or centered. That sharp 'S' is probably in the 10K range, so pull that down a point or two and see if it helps. Maybe 10K and 15K down a point together. You can put in some music or a movie you are familiar with- play it and slide all the faders up and down one at a time and see how it sounds. If you move anything more than 3 points, you may be trying to hard, but I can see pushing and pulling some stuff a point or two.

Yeah, I miss knobs and slider pots sometimes.

As for your specific piece of gear, I can't say. Did you pay $10 for it, and is it made by Fisher Price? I kid, I kid... but surely it allows you to set some material to play and then allow you, make picture and sound adjustments. Not to allow that is mind bogglingly poor design. Care to share the make and model? I have a Receiver set-up- A/V in => Surround output. Even there, I cannot choose a picture source different from the sound source, but I can still access (the global) EQ and stuff from any playback source
