Hi folks,

I have a Samsung HTIB, and I'm unsure what configuration to put for the "user equalizer". I've had the HTIB for a while, and I've just used the default till now (i.e. zero).

The range is +6 to -6 for each of these: 250 hz, 600hz, 1 kHz, 3khz, 6khz, 10khz, & 15khz.
Any recommendations?

Incidentally, I've noticed sometimes when words are spoken containing the letter "S", that the "S" sounds a bit too sharp (not sure if that's the right word). Would changing the EQ affect that at all?

Applying EQ is largely a matter of taste, apart from extreme abuses of low end and such.

Start with everything at Zero, or centered.

That sharp 'S' is probably in the 10K range, so pull that down a point or two and see if it helps. Maybe 10K and 15K down a point together.

You can put in some music or a movie you are familiar with- play it and slide all the faders up and down one at a time and see how it sounds.
If you move anything more than 3 points, you may be trying to hard, but I can see pushing and pulling some stuff a point or two.

Thanks for the reply.

You said, "You can put in some music or a movie you are familiar with- play it and slide all the faders up and down one at a time and see how it sounds". That did occur to me, but in order to do that with this HTIB, I have to disengage the CD system and switch to the settings screen. Then after adjusting one EQ, I'd have to disengage the settings screen and switch to the CD system and start the playing all over again. Very time consuming!

As far as I can tell, it's not possible to switch screen settings without disengaging the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player. This is frustrating for another reason: I can't watch TV (muted) while listening to a CD. The screen can only show the CD info when the CD is playing.

Yeah, I miss knobs and slider pots sometimes.

As for your specific piece of gear, I can't say.
Did you pay $10 for it, and is it made by Fisher Price?

I kid, I kid... but surely it allows you to set some material to play and then allow you, make picture and sound adjustments. Not to allow that is mind bogglingly poor design.
Care to share the make and model?

I have a Receiver set-up- A/V in => Surround output.
Even there, I cannot choose a picture source different from the sound source, but I can still access (the global) EQ and stuff from any playback source

Sure: Samsung 5.1ch Blu-ray Home Entertainment System, HT-D6530.

Edit: By fluke, I just figured it out! The manual indicates to press DSP mode to get to user EQ. However, it doesn't mention that "tools" then has to be pressed. I just now happened to press it, and voila, the EQ appeared while the CD was playing. :-)

Now, is there any way to watch TV while listening to a disc?
