MAGNUM, PI---ABC and co-producer Eva Longoria are developing a sequel to the Tom Selleck tv series that features Thomas Magnum's adult daughter, Lily "Tommy" Magnum, who runs her father's Hawaiian detective agency. She also seeks to solve the mystery of a failed spy operation that ended her career in Navy intelligence. Magnum's daughter, Lily Catherine Hue, appeared in four episodes of the original series.
The producers said, “We knew no one could replace the iconic role of Thomas Magnum, so John (creator John Rogers) decided to make the reboot a sequel and continue the adventure of a Magnum — his daughter, who was established in the original series."

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2---the sequel plot has Wick coming out of retirement and traveling to Rome to help a friend take on the "assassin's guild". Director Chad Stahelski said the sequel will have the "assassin's code" in which a contract is placed on Wick after he killed the Russian gangster, Wick will have a new dog, and Laurence Fishburne will play "The Bowery King".
He added, “I would say we had twice as much action as the first movie. We took it all a full notch up as far as the driving car stuff went. A great portion of the car chase in the opening of the film is Keanu, which is very impressive… People kept asking us in the year after the movie came out, ‘We’d like to see more about the hotel.’ ‘We’d like to see more about all the different characters. ‘What is this underworld where everyone’s the best?’ What’s it like to be in a world like this? That’s what we really wanted to expand on."
The sequel poster has Wick being fitted for a "bulletproof suit".

THE EQUALIZER 2---Denzel Washington, director Antoine Fuqua and writer Richard Wenk are returning for the sequel.

THE ALIENIST---director Cary Fukunaga has left the TNT series based on the novel but remains as executive producer. He will be replaced by director Jakob Verbruggen.
Fukunaga will direct THE BLACK COUNT, the movie based on the novel about Alexandre Dumas (THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO).

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER---Hugo Weaving originally said about appearing as Red Skull in THE FIRST AVENGER, would not want to do it again." Weaving recently said, "It was fun to play; I enjoyed the outrageousness of the German accent that I employed and I enjoyed the extraordinary mask and costume, even though it was unbelievably hot inside it. I enjoy mask work; I enjoy trying to animate masks and reveal certain things that the mask itself might not reveal."
He added, "With Marvel, it’s pretty basic stuff: accept the deal and enjoy the ride. It’s not a major stretch for an actor, but on the other hand the difficulty with the Marvel universe is maintaining a link to a human dimension within such an extraordinary, technological CGI universe. In terms of me going back and doing another one, I don’t know. I’m not sure what they’re up to with the Red Skull."

THE SIMPSONS---FXX will premiere a 13-day, 600-episode marathon beginning on Thanksgiving Day, November 24.

GAME OF THRONES---Daniel Radcliffe commented on possibly appearing on the series, "I would love to. If they want to just bring me in and f**king kill me, I would be so happy to do that."

KEEPING IT REAL---new Showtime comedy series starring Walton Goggins as a narcissistic, well-intentioned movie star who tries to settle international hotspot problems but only makes things worse.

R-RATED---producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure said about the movie industry, “As an industry, we’ve weathered the collapse of DVD. We’ve weathered the onslaught of video games and really quality television. The disappointment I have is that the response to those challenges has been a narrowing of choice. And I don’t think that’s the right thing. We’ve abandoned young males largely in our business. They like R-rated movies. They were the most dependable audience of my 25 years in this business. They’ve become less dependable because we are not making product for them. That’s a big mistake.”
He also said he's developing a tv series based on the JUPITER'S LEGACY comic book.

POWER RANGERS---Bill Hader will provide the voice for Alpha 5 in the remake movie.

DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW---Citizen Steel (Nick Zano) will appear in Season's premiere episode.

POSTAL---Hulu tv series underway based on the comic book about a town run by fugitive criminals whose pasts come back to haunt them.

We’ve abandoned young males largely in our business. They like R-rated movies.

I don't agree with this. Who does di Bonaventure think is going to see all of the comic book and video game movies if not young males? And even some of those (DEADPOOL, HARDCORE HENRY) are R-rated or will have R-rated versions made available on video (BATMAN v SUPERMAN).

There are still R-rated selections for those who prefer the harder stuff. Most horror films still seem to be rated R (BLAIR WITCH, CONJURING 2, DON'T BREATHE, MORGAN) and I'm sure there is a healthy young male component in their audiences. And there are still R-rated action films (MECHANIC: RESURRECTION; LONDON HAS FALLEN; PURGE; TRIPLE 9) and raunchy comedies (THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY; KEANU; NEIGHBORS 2; SAUSAGE PARTY; WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT; the forthcoming BAD SANTA).

And, of course, assuming that young males deign to watch dramas, there are plenty of selections (THE FREE STATE OF JONES, HANDS OF STONE, HELL OR HIGH WATER, MONEY MONSTER, SNOWDEN, the forthcoming THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN).

... Not to mention:

The Knick
Game Of Thrones
The Walking Dead
Fear The Walking Dead
Ripper Street
Homeland

... just off the top of my head. I think we are generally served to a healthy meal of 'smart' and 'adult' these days. On the other hand, I will agree with him to the extent of condemning the silliness with which folks get preoccupied with ratings monikers. I say, rate a film accurately for what it is... do *not* try to warp something to fit a rating. That`s archaically stifling and counter-productive/counter-conducive.

And then there`s the issue of 'pro intelligence-community' projects, but that`s a separate serious issue. (Yes, Homeland being a superlative beneficiary of access, yet still being an excellent show!) (credit where due voice)

JOHN WICK 2 - Enjoyed the first one, certainly open to more such tale-telling.

I watched and loved the original "Magnum P.I." for the strong male (and moral) role models, their bond as a "band of brothers" (3 of which served together) because they were all combat veterans who served with honor (including Higgins who gave true incarnation to the phrase "gentleman soldier") in the prime of their lives, living out the male fantasy of being a man's man, living on a ocean front estate, having access to a Ferrari, having a friend who own's and flies a cool helicopter, solving cases and occasionally getting the bad guy and all in the paradise of Hawaii.

Now answer me this: What should I look forward to in this new "Magnum" version? frown

Tom Selleck is probably rolling his eyes over the latest MAGNUM, PI ripoff attempt.
His former MAGNUM, PI movie collaborator, Tom Clancy, is rolling over in his grave.
