Hi Everyone!

For any Manhattan/NYC based forum members, or anyone in the immediate vicinity, wanted to invite all of you to a concert coming up here in the City. The Pit Stop Players, a chamber orchestra consisting of a number of top Broadway musicians, will be presenting their "Fall Fantasies" concert on October 24th, at the Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church (152 West 66th Street, between Broadway & Amsterdam). The concert will be under the direction of Joshua Rosenblum - who also founded the ensemble - and will begin at 7:30. It should run about ninety minutes.

"Sounds great so far, Eccles, but why are you telling us this?"

Good question, hypothetical forum member! Y'see, on this particular program is the premiere a brand new chamber suite from David Shire's "Return to Oz", which I was commissioned to arrange and orchestrate. I think (and hope) admirers of the score will find a lot to enjoy in it, and it was a lot of fun to re-figure the score for an ensemble of fifteen, and still stay true to David's original sketches.

The rest of the program is pretty neat, too -- with John Adams' "The Chairman Dances", an interesting medley of Chopin & Earth, Wind and Fire, and two world premieres, including Gary William Friedman's Poe-inspired "A Dream within a Dream."

Below is a link with more information about the ensemble, and the concert.

Tickets are $25, or $15, if you're a student -- "CHEAP!", as they used to say in MAD Magazine. Here's a direct link to the ticket site:

Anyway, I hope some of you will be able to come. Let me know if you'll be there, and perhaps we can all find time to say "Hello!" I'll be the one that looks like a "FamousEccles." See you on the 24th!

Sounds like a wonderful concert. I can't fly out, but I really really hope some of our NY based film music fans come to this. Anytime you have the chance to hear some of David Shire's gorgeous score, you should go! Best of luck smile

I'd also love to hear how this goes. I don't suppose there's any chance there'll be a videographer present, will there?

Having just come from the first rehearsal of the "Return to Oz" suite, I thought I'd give this thread a bump and encourage any of our New York/Metropolitan Area constituency to come out for this concert, as it's going to be really something. Not just for David Shire's stunningly gorgeous achievement (which I somehow didn't ruin in this new orchestration), but for Gary William Friedman's "A Dream within a Dream", which is a wonderful musical evocation of Poe, and a number of other terrific pieces.

I don't know if there'll be a videographer present, but I know some of the group's previous concerts have been filmed, so there's at least a chance. I'll let everyone know one way or another.

Hope to see some of you there!

Here's a friendly reminder that The Pit Stop Players "Fall Fantasies" concert is tonight in Manhattan! At 7:30pm, at the Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church (66th Street between Broadway & Amsterdam).

It's a chance to hear some of Manhattan's finest musicians do their thing with some really wonderful music -- from a delightful chamber reduction of John Adams' "The Chairman Dances", to the premiere of the gorgeous "A Dream Within a Dream" by Gary William Friedman (who has written a number of film & TV scores, but might be best known for his songs from the original "Electric Company"), and, of course, the premiere of my new suite from David Shire's "Return to Oz," which is being performed with tremendous sensitivity and exuberance. I couldn't be happier.

Come if you can, it's going to be a truly special evening. More information can be found at the top of the thread. Thanks again!
