There's a lot of clips (and spoilers) on Youtube. It kinda looks like Jim Henson's worst nightmare. Sock Puppet from Hell! I like the sense of power and size, (Much better than the latest American version) but not the design at all. Can't comment more on the design without revealing spoilers. I also really dislike it's new "powers" which take away from it's main weapon, his atomic breath. (which looks awesome by the way) It's just overkill like in Hollywood.

I want to see it, but I expect I'll have to wait for it to come to video.

I really enjoyed Shin Godzilla. It felt very much like an old-school Godzilla flick. I'm glad I went to go see it.

LOVED it. Saw it with my wife, our 8-year old daughter and her friend. Holly and I thought the kids would get bored or frustrated by the subtitles, but they sat through the whole thing with their eyes glued to the screen (except for the times when they looked at each other with that "OMG, that was awesome!" expression on their faces).

The theater was almost completely full, too, and at least two dozen people stayed through the end credits, which almost never happens; I'm usually the only one left in the theater after the credits start rolling. I mentioned to Holly and the girls that I was going to stay and listen to the music, and the guy sitting next to me leaned over and mentioned his surprise at the use of Ifukube's original '54 music in the film (!). Wow. One of us. Incidentally, I ordered the soundtrack from CDJapan as soon as we got home. What a blast.

Allow me to venture a guess with regards to "OMG":

I almost lePt up from my seat and cheered, so yeah awesome to the nth power.

Wow, that's two remarkable occurrences in one sitting. Remarkable.

Today (7.29 in Japan at the time of this writing) marks the 3rd anniversary of Shin-Godzilla. Just watched the movie on Bluray again. Imo, simply the best Godzilla movie: updating themes of the original 54 movie for a modern audience, a good script, great direction and cut, terrific special effects (Godzilla in action in BRIGHT Daylight!) and a fitting soundtrack, paying hommage to the heritage of Godzilla and the makers of this movie (Godzilla 54 & Evangelion).

LONG LIVE THE KING!

Thoroughly enjoyed it on both occasions that I've seen it, and have bought (but have yet to watch) the bluray. It was the human element that impressed me about this film; you just know something of this magnitude would produce meeting after meeting in a modern bureaucracy, and this was portrayed in a way that was realistic but never boring.

Great score, especially the nods to Ifukube, and a stunning and thought-provoking ending.
