The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (with live music accompaniment) I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and they are having a few months of German Expressionism events going on around the city. Not sure why. Last night, they showed The Cabinet of Dr Caligari with a score written by a local composer Jason Cullimore. And i have to say i thought it was very good. The film itself was pretty interesting and got better as it went along. I just wish some of you lot out there could have seen it, because i have no music knowledge outside a general interest in soundtracks, and it would have been interesting to get opinions of what was being played. But i was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the music, which really seemed to fit the film. There were 8 players and just a touch of pre-recorded voices and instrumentation. It was very effective and suitably creepy and engaging. I guess it's one of those things that if you gave it to 5 different composers, you'd get 5 different and interesting approaches and scores. If there was a CD of this chap's score i would have bought it for the second half alone. I just wish a few of you could have heard it, as i think you'd have enjoyed it too. It's my first experience of this kind of thing, but i would love to hear one of the showings in London of Aliens or something like that. Anyway, it was a different Sunday night out and a good one at that. Only slightly issue was a couple of middle-aged ladies sat nearby who just found lots about the film funny, for some reason, and sniggered a little too much throughout the screening, so i moved seats away from them. http://leaderpost.com/entertainment/local-arts/regina-artists-think-big-in-the-ambitious-caligari-project
