A great shame that most of it has been released before. Rock Requiem will certainly attract a few buyers though, although having bought the vinyl years ago I won't be one of them. I thought it was an awful album! I will be interested in the Quincy Jones set, but if the Schifrin set is anything to go by it doesn't seem like there will be much we haven't heard before. Still, let's wait and see. The My Life in Music compilation is as good an all-round representation of Lalo's work (both film/tv and other compositions) as we're likely to see, I think.

Simon Morris, it's of course all down to a matter of taste but I'm surprised that you describe ROCK REQUIEM as an 'awful album'. I have the track Agnus Dei on the CD MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE AND OTHER THRILLING THEMES and it's absolutely magnificent. I was never given the chance to listen to the full LP but just spotted two other cues on Youtube, Offertory verse and Final prayer and well, they sound great as well. I therefore look forward to discovering this record. Sorry about that Laurent. I really didn't like it I'm afraid. And as you say, it's just a matter of taste and you're more than free to disagree.

This Schifrin set is a very good representation of what made his sound so fascinating during the 60's. But it's aimed first at the public at large. Hhmmm ... an implication being that the "public at large" is itself largely unfamiliar with 1960s content. Folks under age 40 need compilations such as these with which to acquaint themselves with vintage material...

I don't think this upcoming capbox was dedicated a topic so far (didn't find any in the years 2016 & 2015). So here's a French presentation and the full track-listing: http://www.muziq.fr/crimes-et-chuchotements-le-son-de-lalo-schifrin/ Needless to say that a whole lot of the music included therein is already available on CD. As far as I'm concerned, it's worth getting it only for the non soundtrack album ROCK REQUIEM (seems to be a great one) and for the Jules Verne concert. Let's hope the Quincy Jones box to be issued soon by Universal France as well will encompass more unreleased stuff. Tracklisting CD CD1 Mission: Impossible (1967) 1. Mission: Impossible 2. Pleasant surprise to me that the classic Jimmie Smith "The Cat" was composed by Lalo. This means Schifrin wrote music that Fred Astaire danced to, (on ABC-TV's "The Hollywood Palace.")
