Here's an interview with Korzeniowski about the score.

Anything new by Korzeniowski is good news. Looking forward to it, although I've heard mixed comments about the film itself.

Main title piece is streaming here:

It's not as immediately arresting as his A SINGLE MAN theme but it's typical Korzeniowski loveliness. There's a very promising darkness creeping around the edges here, like it's his riffing on scores for 90's romantic thrillers. Good stuff.

More interesting is the credits sequence it accompanies; a montage of naked overweight women dancing. I'm up for anything he's doing for Tom Ford so I'm very much looking forward to this.

Beautiful! A little bit John Barry-esque!

Sounds terrific! It's the big lyrical side of his writing a la ROMEO AND JULIET and ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW that I love so much. Now this is minimalism done right. Big, gorgeous, symphonically-engaging, wonderfully orchestrated. Can't wait to hear the full score!

From Abel Korzeniowski FB page, here is the tracklist:

01. Wayward Sisters
02. Exhibition
03. Restless
04. A Solitary Woman
05. Off the Road
06. Revenge
07. The Field
08. Crossroads
09. Mothers
10. City Lights
11. Table for Two
12. The Field (alt. version)
13. Fairy Tale (bonus track)

Korzeniowski says: "The album is a complete score plus a piece which was written for NA, but didn't make it to the final cut. There's slightly more score in the film, mostly because some of themes are used more than once".

This film was way more engaging and interesting than I anticipated.
I loved the 'novel' storyline unfolding within the story, very gripping and intense.
I expected the film to be cold and distant, but was pleased to find the characters involving and flawed.
It felt like a 'high-brow' DePalma film at times, complete with the old-school Herrmann styled strings and throw-back scoring.
If I have one complaint, it would be the annoying and underwhelming endings of both story threads within the film.
After the build-up of the 'novel' storyline, the ending/outcome felt botched and contrived to me somehow and the ambiguous ending of the reality-based setting was...I dunno...maybe I need a few days to ponder it.
The acting was across the board top-notch, with Adams, Gyllenhaal, Shannon and Taylor-Johnson ALL outstanding.
Most certainly recommended (by me).

There's a Norwegian press screening next week, which I hope to catch. However, after having heard through the promo once, I must say I'm not very satisfied. Probably my least favourite Korzeniowski so far, as far as albums are concerned. Don't get me wrong, there are good cues here, but some of the insistant minimalism becomes a bit too much for me. It passes the limit into 'grating'. Maybe it will be better in the movie itself.

Yeah, it is quite minimal sounding, but VERY lush, strings-wise.
I wouldn't really play it much on CD (I don't find this composer that interesting to my ear, from what I've heard), but it adds a real veneer of class to the proceedings onscreen.
I liked the icy string sustains during the more suspenseful scenes.
Btw Thor, while you're on, have you heard the theme and last track from Dr STRANGE?
I know you're not a fan of Giacchino, but I'm sure the prog-rock/60's vibe of the End Credits, coupled with the insanely catchy theme, would certainly appeal to your sensibilities.

I clicked on this expecting music for a nature documentary. :S

I have heard it, and I DID like that track. I haven't heard the rest yet.

As for Korzeniowski, I'm a big fan of his, and I absolutely adore his scores for COPERNICUS STAR, ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW, ROMEO & JULIET, A SINGLE MAN and W.E., in particular (plus his unreleased METROPOLIS score). This one, however, was not in the same league.

My feelings exactly. I thought this one was extremely average, a pity though.

Agreed... first few cues were fine... but then it got quickly rather boring (despite the short running time)... it's still an OK score but hardly anything as special as his others...

This is a great score that broaches the line between contemporary minimalism and film noir scores of the yesteryears. If the film captures momentum, not surprised if this gets an Oscar.
