Why keep labels releasing this crap... i don't know!
I think a lot of labels think it's a way of promoting something special, rather than a bog standard jewel case.
I'm seeing it more frequently in other areas of music, where the "special edition" with bonus tracks comes in a digi-pack / cardboard sleeve, as opposed to the standard version in a jewel case.
But yeah, I don't know why people think cheap cardboard is something special, other than being able to produce more artwork like the gatefold vinyl sleeves of old.
Sakamoto is very eco-friendly, so he might have requested cardboard packaging.
From his official bio:
Sakamoto has been constantly pushing towards sustainability, with the tour, “Playing the Piano 2009”, he chose sustainable and ecologically sound ways to tour; Sakamoto used green electricity at each performance, and all carbon dioxide emitted through the tour was offset. The carbon offset is made by means of the cultivation of forests promoted by his environmental protection organization, moreTrees, founded in 2007. www.more-trees.org
Be happy you guys aren't into current pop/rock - EVERYthing, at least my stuff, is in thin cardboard sleeves. Bitch to file those things..
So, what does this score sound like? Ethnic? Melancholy? Electronic? Thematic? I know I can go you tube it or sample, but I'd rather get a perspective from a fan here, first. I like the scant Sakamoto I have, but it's all post 1990.

Anyone had issues with their copies? On my first copy and replacement copy I've got a stuttering effect in the background on tracks 16 & 17.
My replacement copy of the new Milan Mr. Lawrence has the same glitching on the same tracks, so a manufacturing error. One to avoid if you're thinking of picking it up.
