Can anyone who bought the Little Box of Horrors box confirm if any of the tracks from Robert Cobert's Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde are stereo? The samples sound like mono on my laptop, but I don't want to judge by mp3s.

It sounds like most of the tracks featured as audio samples made their way into the Dark Shadows library. For example, the main title was re-recorded for the TV show and subsequently featured on the LP as part 1 of "A Darkness at Collinwood." The version heard here appeared in the Dark Shadows theatrical film. The scary music in the dinner party track shows up as "Night of the Pentagram" on the LP. And then there is "Quentin's Theme."

Is there anyone familiar enough with the Dark Shadows music who can address the amount of overlap between this release and the DS TV show/theatrical films?

Thank you! Did you identify these tracks, or was this info listed in the liner notes or on a website?

I bought this box as a birthday present for myself and just finished my first listen.

My favourite albums were the ones by Beltrami. The best one being “Dracula 2000” just slightly over “Scream” because it had at least some major chords that felt so refreshing amid all the bleak atmospheres. The action music was also superb especially during the album’s latter half. Even the cliché wailing vocals seemed to fit into the mix.

I’m not really that keen on 80s synth scores but the ones chosen for this set were surprisingly good. The best ones in that category were “Pumpkinhead” (the beginning is just lovely but the ending feels a bit anonymous) and “The Serpent and the Rainbow”. The last premiere release “Dr. Jekyll” had some great creeping-around cues with an emphasis on the harp, but lacked thematic development at least judging by the first listen. I only owned the Goldsmith album beforehand and it’s one of the best albums of the box with improved sound.

Overall the box contains a nice variety of different styles and I’ll surely return to many of the albums later.

Yeah it's an awesome little set. "The Hidden" is absolutely nuts. Count me in for volume #2.

Does anyone saved hi-res covers for some albums?
That's damn photobucket ruined it, and I'm going crazy, 'cause my box will arrive soon and I still not have good covers frown

I thought MEPHISTO WALTZ (with THE OTHER suite) was a straight re-issue. They sound the same to me.

It's great! smile That and the Cobert are two big discoveries for me, two new names to look out for. Likewise i'd love to see more of this kind of thing from Varese.

Anyone order this but still not receive it? My credit card was charged some time ago, but I have yet to receive it. I called Naxos and (while at first they told me my order number was wrong/not a Naxos order number, eventually I got connected to whoever handles the Varese shipments) I was told that it was "backordered". Person I spoke with said it would ship soon and that it was not "over sold" (they would be filling my order even though the item is sold out). That was a few days ago and still no shipping notice.

I have looked you up on the backend, Dervish Sanders and can not find your name anywhere as a past customer. Maybe you use another name for ordering, but was going to try to figure this out for you.

You were issued a refund for the Little Box Of Horrors Box sets you ordered. At the very last second we had some people do a last minute dash to order copies of the box and it threw the system off, not sure why. Try to order before we get dangerously low on a product in the future. You were refunded today as you know as you got an email.
