Well, did a search and came up with nothing for Steve Jablonsky's recent score for Peter Berg's Deepwater Horizon. Surprised there wasn't already a thread for it, but also not surprised given that this is after all FSM, home of the MJF (Miniscule Jablonsky Fanbase).

Probably not many reading this then that are fans of the score -- I myself am one -- it's not his best, it breaks no new ground for the guy, but it's predictably entertaining if you dig the Jablonsky industrial action sound. Some truly badass tracks, my favorites being "Cut the Pipe" and "The Rig". "Mud" is basically an exercise in rhythm, percussion, and adrenaline-on-speed, but it unashamedly gets my blood pumping; I don't always need thematics and orchestral presence to have a good time with my film music.

Anyway, the main reason I sought out the thread was that the main four-note motif in Deepwater Horizon sounded familiar to me and I figured out yesterday exactly why -- it's extremely similar to, almost one note away from (in a different key), and played on almost the exact same sound as Jablonsky's theme for Jason in his score for 2009's Friday the 13th.

Compare 0:33-39 of "The Rig" from Deepwater Horizon with 0:10-0:17 of "Friday the 13th Opening Title":

Someone may jump on this as a negative. I don't think it is. I personally don't care. I love the sound. I love his score for Friday the 13th and I thought it was a cool connection to make with Deepwater Horizon.

I have to bring this up, seeing the movie again, i back to listen this, and like more than the first time (works tremendously in the movie), and brings a interesting tension and sense of peril.
