It appears the first ever official release of John Barry's WALKABOUT will be published on LP via The Roundtable. I have to imagine that a CD release will follow either via Roundtable or another label.

Release Notes
The premiere soundtrack release to Nicolas Roeg’s 1971 New Wave Masterpiece
Lost hallucinogenic score from acclaimed film composer John Barry
12-track LP sourced from the original stereo master tapes
180g vinyl and deluxe packaging including archival film stills and original press material

A lost paradise, a lost innocence, and a lost culture; these are the dominant themes presented in Nicolas Roeg’s 1971 masterpiece Walkabout, a survival story of two children lost in the scorched Australian wilderness. Together with other seminal Australian surrealistic outback films, (e.g. Wake In Fright) Walkabout was a film that reshaped the Australian film industry and defined the country’s New Wave. On the cusp of the film’s 45t h anniversary it is pertinent to observe that for decades the film’s original soundtrack has also been considered lost. Composed and conducted by the acclaimed British film composer John Barry, the score is a hallucinogenic mix of exotic romanticism, children’s nursery rhyme and potent psychedelic experimentation. For decades, the consensus among soundtrack circles was that the master tapes were officially missing with little chance that the music would ever see a legitimate release, but The Roundtable is pleased to announce that this is no longer the case. The complete soundtrack to one of cinema history’s most visually spellbinding films has now finally been re-discovered, sourced from the original stereo master tapes and prepared to the guidelines of the original ill-fated 1970s LP release. The Walkabout soundtrack is released in conjunction with the lost film music to Peter Weir’s 1977 existential eco-horror The Last Wave, composed by Charles Wain.

This is a bit out of the blue? I can't help feeling a bit suspicious, plus why an album design just like Midnight Cowboy?

I do hope my fear is unfounded.

That is what I was going to post.

Makes me wonder if someone is going to pass off the Silva Rerecording as the original tracks.

Indeed James.

They have the Prague recording of Raise The Titanic listed as "original soundtrack".

Deeply suspicious now.

Hmmm....

If the complete score has been found, how come, of the score tracks, they're releasing only what was already on the POO LP, plus 'Night in the Outback', which is not a single cue but the title Silva Screen gave to a suite of short cues they combined together in their re-recording?

Where's the end title? Where's all the other music missing from the POO LP?

Sadly the sound samples don't work, as I'd like to check out how this sounds relative to the claim it's stereo from original master tapes.

Cheers

I've done some digging. On their Instagram page, The Roundtable shows a box of tapes for The Last Wave, the other 'lost' film score they're releasing. But nothing for Walkabout.

There is another photo which shows a box of 'Australian film industry' tapes which they had to go through, but no clear sign of Walkabout.

If they have found tapes, great, but still wondering why it's basically the POO LP plus one track titled after a Silva Screen track rather than the complete score.

Need to investigate this more.

Cheers

Reading this product description for the Silva Screen LP of RAISE THE TITANIC you allude to, it seems pretty clear to me that it is the rerecording and there is no attempt to pass it off as something it isn't.

I have a few of the Roundtable's other soundtracks and library records, and the meticulousness and high quality of their releases are quite evident and consistent. I hope they prove the doubters here wrong.

My WORST nightmare come true - I have interest in something, but it's released at awful form - "just" LP (and nothing else) or expensive box with tones of USELESS things (including LP & EP!!!!!!!!!!!).
I try to wake up, but seems that this is all for real?!

ps I so hope that this will be b**t!!!

Like everyone, I'll be delighted if this is what it purports to be, but every red flag known to me is currently flying high. Stephen Woolston has pointed out the whys of that - the cover is so funky and stupid (and a rip-off of another Barry LP) and it's just all VERY peculiar especially in light of the other thread from the other day. And again, doing an LP only release is the biggest red flag of them all - in other words, why WOULDN'T they do a CD release? It makes no sense and frankly I'll let others be the guinea pigs.

But what is the source of the 23 minutes of music listed with three dubious releases on soundtrackcollector? Could they just have re-used that?

I'm sure if this is the "real" deal we'll get at least a download version sooner or later. Right now, this all seems pretty strange...

It is clear to me too but it won't be clear to everybody when it is tagged underneath as 1980 original soundtrack.

You're a blast from my past Martyn, I remember reading your articles in Robert Wood's film music journals in the late 70's-early 80's.

Mr Jolly occasionally posts on the John Barry Appreciation site on FB though I haven't seen anything from him for some time now. The last time I saw them both personally was at the JB Memorial concert at the Albert Hall. ( More accurately in a pub a block away after the concert wink )

This definitely looks weird, and the LP program shown on their website is most certainly NOT the complete score.
