Just got back from the film but thought it was the weakest Spidey film since the last one (Garfield/Zimmer).
I generally like the Spiderman character and loved the first two Raimi ones and didn't even hate the third one, despite it's problems.
I liked the first reboot one with the Horner score too.
This one just bored me and the humour and prat-falls failed at every level to me.
Maybe the Marvel superhero fatigue is really kicking in now.
Oh yeah, the score. Some okay moments but didn't really spark with me either. Catchy main theme, but on the whole it sounded light and frivolous and uninvolving.

Giacchino has never really sparked with me before - he's a very competent composer who I've always thought writes music which works well in the film but is instantly forgettable.

I liked Dr Strange and the Yorktown theme from the last Star Trek film, but on the whole I've never really been able to embrace the guy's work.

But I love, love, love Spider-Man: Homecoming. Absolutely terrific score and the first time I've ever actually wanted to buy anything by Giacchino.

I always though Elman's theme for the Raimi's movies was ok but not really suited to the character. And I hated the scores for the two Amazing Soider-Man movies (and hated those movies too - especially Andrew Garfield who was simply too old and too dull to play Peter Parker) but Homecoming just absolutely nails the theme.

Loved the movie, easily my favorite Spider-man movie.

Loved the score, easily my favorite Spider-man score.

Stop the presses! I've grown to LOVE this score! It's addictive and I'm constantly humming Spidy's theme.

Stop the presses! I've grown to LOVE this score! It's addictive and I'm constantly humming Spidy's theme.

No kidding. (I was whistling Doc Strange on the way out of that film as well.)

Saw this yesterday and hadn't really listened to the score before either. I'm glad there are a couple of MG first timers on the thread (or first time enjoyers anyway). I didn't hear anything that made me reassess MG but it was a very solid score that I enjoyed. (I like MG.)

I thought Horner's theme was *ahem* amazing but nothing from the rest of the score jumped out at me. (Kind of like Garfield: Loved him and his Spider-man, not crazy about the movie.) I was never a fan of Elfman's theme but I liked the score.

Wow did Toomes (Keaton) glue this movie together. OTOH, um, is that the John Carter theme?

This was one of the movies that I went in thinking "Well, I'm pretty sure the previews have shown me the whole movie" and I was blissfully wrong. Sure there were three or four plot moments that I knew were coming (Death Star, Washington, Ferry, With Great Power Does Not Come a Suit) but in between those was a hell of a ride.

I don't know what this movie was like for people who 1) had not been reading Spidey comics for 45 years and 2) were not deeply entrenched in the Marvel Movies. I mean, when you tear up when (after the movie begins with Sony logos) the Marvel Studios logo comes up with the music telling you that Spider-man is finally in the MCU then you know you might be experiencing this movie in a different way than the people who just wanted to be out of the heat for two hours.

Oh, MG (or his directors) still seem to know the lost art of "Hey, let's have NO music over this scene!"

Maybe I'm not finding the right threads for this score where lots of people are talking about it.

If not, why is no one talking about this? Why is no one raving about this?

Between this and Rogue One, Giacchino has had two home runs in six months. (I liked Doctor Strange a lot, but it's not in the same league.) I still see active Rogue One threads.

S-M:H was the kind of movie that can really draw out a composer's abilities because it's not just one note of "HERO" for the whole film. There are several different flavors in this film for MG to work with.

Academic Decommitment is one of my favorite tracks in ages.

As I stated above its a really fun score. But if you go in expecting an action/adventure score you'll be disappointed. It reminds me of Agent Cody Banks. (which I also love)
