The obvious On The Waterfront "influence" hurts the scores, in my mind, but I'd be happy if someone would change my mind (on those elements of the scores, at least - I love most of the rest of LA Confidential like a sumbitch).

L.A. Confidential's score works well in the film, but I think this is one of the very few times (or only time) when Goldsmith's score wasn't quite as good as the film it was written for. Like others in this thread, I much prefer City Hall on album, though I've never seen the film. I would be all over an expanded/complete release of either score, but especially City Hall. Thanks to DeputyRiley (who I guess doesn't want to toot his own horn) we have a complete score breakdown which points out at least one missing highlight...even assuming there wasn't much written for the film that wasn't used in it (we already know some were unused thanks to DR), I'd still be interested in a Deluxe Edition. http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=110759&forumID=1&archive=0 Yavar

my Goldsmith accumulation jumps from Capricorn One and The Swarm to LA Confidential.
No love for Alien, Star Trek TMP, Poltergeist, Total Recall or Basic Instinct?
